TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- "We know what happened to Mike Williams. He was murdered."

F.D.L.E. Special Agent Mark Perez made that announcement during a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

He said authorities notified Williams' family the morning of.

Williams went missing December 16, 2000. The 31-year-old left his home in Tallahassee to go duck hunting on Lake Seminole in Jackson County, and never returned.

Perez said, "After receiving new information, FDLE's crime scene unit and special agents spent days conducting an extensive search in an undisclosed location. That search led to the recovery of human remains."

I'd not heard of this missing person until this story broke. The information on it is baffling....

Year 2000

Wife takes out 1.5m life insurance policy on husband 1 month before he disappears. His friend, who she married, was an insurance broker. His hunting gear turned up months later, in mint condition, despite having been in a lake (flashlight still worked too). This evidence was used to expedite the death certificate and claim the insurance.

So the cops knew who did it all along, but they didn’t have the evidence.

They just sentenced the Best Friend/Wife’s now ex husband for abusing her and they find his remains the next day. So expect a deal with him to be announced some time in the next couple days and expect the former Mrs. Williams to be arrested and charged shortly. Or..expect the best friend/wife’s now ex Husband to be charged and expect the former Mrs. Williams to appear at a tearful news conference saying she finally “felt free” to tell the truth..

Also, I should say that this article really shows all of the details known before the body was found... including the Grandmother losing rights to see the grand daughter because she pushed for a murder case.

No body, No homicide.

Right! They pretty much knew who the perps were but couldn't tag them. I imagine that must be the worst for a detective.

The Coen brothers could make a movie out of that.

Yep, they sure did. I feel really safe in betting that is no coincidence. I’d also bet they found his body somewhere other than lake Seminole.

That’s a bill that’s fixing to come due. I wouldn’t want to be the former Mrs. Williams today.

No body, no homicide USED to be the idea, but not any more. Today’s technology allows us to see when a person no longer exists. Murderers have received death penalties despite lack of a body.

“His hunting gear turned up months later, in mint condition, despite having been in a lake (flashlight still worked too)”

I remember that, now that you mention it.

Wrong.

Drew Peterson - Illinois
Convicted on hearsay evidence. Still no body, to this day.

“His adoring wife Denise...”
I think she adored the insurance policy more.
At least the guy’s mother held out for an answer. Poor thing.

State Statutes differ. Also, it’s often a bit dicey to take to a jury without a body. The police can bring all the evidence they have to the table, it’s up to the State Attorney to decide to bring charges.

I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m simply stating that it is the District or State Attorney who brings forth the case for prosecution. But then again, what do I know..20 plus years in Law Enforcement and all...

No body, No homicide
. . . tho I did read of a case where stains of the genetically identified blood of a victim were found where they had no business being (like on the ceiling), and the court bought that as part of “the body.”
