Alternative remedies like homeopathic treatments have become popular in recent years and now make up a $3 billion industry. But the Food and Drug Administration will begin scrutinizing products that could be dangerous to vulnerable populations.
Many homeopathic remedies are derived from plants and claim to treat everything from the common cold to serious diseases. But the FDA fears that these products can "bring little to no benefit in combating serious ailments, or worse may cause significant and even irreparable harm because the products are poorly manufactured, or contain active ingredients that arent adequately tested or disclosed to patients," according to FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb.

Alternative medicines are quite prevalent in west Africa. There are also some in Germany, just not as prevalent. History teaches us that Germans are pretty easy to manipulate.
“... sucker born every minute”.
Way too broad a stroke, GVG. My husband had high blood pressure.. notice I said had. He initially took the pharmaceuticals and felt sick all the time. He takes L-Arginine plus now (it’s a powder you mix into water) and his blood pressure is normal (and a bit lower). No side effects... He actually was advised to try this drink by a doctor friend he knows. What is wonderful about this is his regular doctor is now discussing the powder with his patients to try before the prescription. Big pharmaceuticals hate homeopathic meds and for good reason... it cuts their bottom line. Granted... not everything is good out there but I tend to see people as intelligent and do their homework/research. Look at any RX and view the side effects... plus, look at the cost.
Which has the more empirical evidence behind it, pharmaceuticals or homeopathy? Which products of said state how much active ingredient is present in the products they sell? Do you believe that people practicing a profession involving life and death decisions should be licensed and certified?
I raise and hunt most of my food. I have a large garden, raise my own beef, etc.
Going meat-free for a week or two at a time seems to help w/my inflation/stiffness.
Lots and lots of vegetables, legumes, certain grains, and eggs as my main protein source.
Conventional medicine claims homeopathic remedies are nothing but water and make believe, so how can they be “risky”? If they are “risky”, then conventional medicine is admitting that homeopathic medicines are real.
Did your friends say they were treating ebola with homeopathy in west Africa?
I believe in all the above when it comes to the treatment of medical conditions, particularly chronic conditions. I've used a few homeopathic remedies with good results for more than ten years.
no they are saying some do nothing and others are dangerous.
they are real in the sense they really cause harm.
You like the CBD oil?
I just go directly to pot. It helps my lower back pain and muscle spasms.
They make pot specifically for that now.
What is your profession?
I thought FR was about personal freedom.
I am always stunned when posters on this site oppose the idea of an adult being able to decline medical treatment, refuse vaccines, or choose their own alternative treatments.
Because homeopathic remedies can’t be patented. You can thank big pharma.
God forbid the average arthritis sufferer finds out tumeric taken daily practically gets rid of the pain. I haven’t taken an advil in a year.

And what are YOU trying to manipulate?

Actually, I advocate for information - standardized, medically sound information.
Those work great. Now try Bromelain. It's incredible for inflammation.
Everybody repeat after me: The government knows best! The government is here to help you!
Maybe there’s room for a little balance in all this:
This lady died and the doctors treating her are pretty certain it was because of Yogi Detox Tea combined with the wine she consumed regularly. Fourteen days on the tea as per recommendations and her liver was shot.
Maybe the doctors missed something or maybe they’re on the drug companies’ payroll, but maybe they’re right too. It doesn’t seem too much to ask to have the government do some checking into it, does it?
Also, a personal story. I have liver damage that was found as an incidental finding when being assessed for a separate condition. So I saw a liver specialist. I had been on several supplements, none of which probably caused the liver damage (one lobe, the small one, had just shut down. The rest is fine, so I’m fine. You don’d need your entire liver, as it turns out.)
But the liver specialist started the conversation with “I’m only going to tell you this once, here at the outset. A large percentage of my patients come to me with damage caused by non-prescription supplements that they’re taking on their own.” This doctor only sees patients with liver problems for a living. Something to consider.
