"The South Koreans should make a big show of having sumptuous banquets on their side of the DMZ, easily within view of soldiers from the North. Put up giant display screens to show same."You assume the SKs want them? Why?

May this trickle become a raging fire hose of Soldiers defecting ! From what we understand, this would seem to be a legitimate hope. So, seeing some sign of it, these hopes are raised.

You assume the SKs want them? Why? Why would you ask why? They are one people, cruelly divided.

“Three down, 25,000,000 to go.”
Idle thought; “what” if Chubby Boi opened the gate allowing a NoKo version of Mariel to occur? A NoKo exercise in Cloward-Pivens early in Korean winter.

Simply to reduce the number of N. Korean soldiers who they may be receiving fire from in the near future. Also, some intelligence info. may be gained.

How do we know whether they were allowed to defect, and in fact, may be spies for the NORKS? They do infiltrate spies, all the time, but without anyone knowing. It's a long coastline, and a small boat dispatched from a submarine is hard to spot.

Tilapia
The oceans equivalence to iceberg lettuce! Little to NO nutritional value...it's not much more than a filler!

If the South Koreans allowed this to happen, with daily announcements of the number of defectors, HOPEFULLY, it would cause MORE defections and soon the Norks would have an actual crisis on their hands! Fat Boy would have to either start changing North Korea, or the whole country would start to fall apart - much like Russia!
Once propagandized people realize that the reported evil, terrible lives that Freedom produces is a HUGE LIE, typically people want MORE FREEDOM!

It’s a prison country. Nobody is allowed to defect. Remember Otto Warmbier.

You may be right as to its little nutritional value, but I like the taste of Tilapia and would eat it if I could find it from a wild-caught source.

More like spies. Defectors family members would be subject to horrible retribution.

I would NOT want the job of taunting the Norks that way, as Norks are NOT above shooting at people across the DMZ. There is annual "toll" of both ROK and American GI lives due to "errant" shots across the border from North Korea (which NO one mentions, or course). On the other hand, if someone feels suicidal then: Bon appetit!

"Why would you ask why? They are one people, cruelly divided."It would be a terrible burden on SK to accept the population of NK should it collapse. I'm sure that is accounted for in our planning with NK.
It's interesting - is the US one people with Mexico cruelly divided? Should we have a wall?
