A row of 'racist' trees standing between an African-American neighborhood and a city golf course will be removed, local officials in Palm Springs, California, told neighborhood residents.
On Sunday, Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon told residents of the historically black Crossley Tract neighborhood that the city would remove the line of tamarisk trees and a chain link fence that runs between the neighborhood and the Tahquitz Creek Golf Course, reports the Desert Sun.
The decision to remove the trees and fence comes after neighborhood residents complained that the 50-foot tall tamarisk trees an invasive species that blocks views of both the golf course and the San Jacinto mountains have been lowering property values for decades.
Additionally, many of the neighborhood residents, the Desert Sun reported, believe that the tamarisk trees were planted in the 1960s as a way to purposely segregate the African-American Crossley Tract residents from the predominantly wealthy white golf players.
The Crossley Tract was founded in 1956 by Palm Springs' first African-American resident, Lawrence Crossley, at a time when black people who worked in Palm Springs were banned from living in the city.
The 10-acre Crossley Tract was intended to be a place where the black families denied housing within city limits could live. The tract has since been incorporated into Palm Springs.
Ground was broken on the Tahquitz Creek Golf Course in 1958 and the tamarisk trees were planed along the east side of the 14th fairway in the mid-1960s. They were not planted anywhere else on the course.

There were a lot of golf courses where I lived and they have racist trees planted at pretty much all of them, not only to block the view but to keep the houses from being plonked by golf balls.
Another example that California is becoming more of an asylum by the day. Now trees can be evil according to Californians.

I was going to same the same thing. Every golf course I have seen that has borders next to residential areas always has giant trees and tall fences. It’s a safety precaution.
I don’t play any more due to health problems. But taking trees off courses would have cut strokes off my handicap. BTW, are any of the people living in that tract members? Wait till they get the bill in their dues to remove them. The city and state aren’t going to help unless they take it out of their funds. Fat chance.

You didn’t read the entire article, The trees are removed, up goes a fence and on top of that netting to catch the off course golf balls. And of course, also “new trees.” All brought to you by the first “all queer” city council in CA. Palm Springs has become “Hot Springs.”
next they will be complaining their houses are being hit with golf balls and want some sort of protection put up without blocking view.
I read it. I don't care about what they are going to do to replace the trees. I just pointed out that putting up trees to block the course from a neighborhood isn't unique.
Crossley wasnt a black neighborhood then. I grew up in Palm Springs. Those supporting this are not natives.
Will the golf balls be called "racist," too?
Regards,
Replace with poison ivy, poison oak, and Toxicodendron vernicifluum.
“an invasive species”
Odd choice of words as Communists push for reconquista and Islamic imperialism in Caliphony.
Wouldn’t it be easier to just remove white people?
“FO!”
Marxist politicians destroying the environment in order to save it from whitey.
Interesting. Most larger cities and counties in Kalifornia have a “heritage tree” ordinance. Does not matter what kind of a tree if it is bigger than a certain size a permit is required to cut it down. Very onerous process to get a permit.
Exactly!
Now they’ll sue when someone, perhaps a child, gets injured by a golf ball, or if one does some damage to their cars.
Personally, I would rather see trees, which clean the air, than a golf course. There’s more privacy.
So. Cut down the trees deemed racist and replace them with...new trees. Only in liberal lala land can you waste money to come full circle back to where you started. But hey. The optics play well I suppose.
Often, fences make good neighbors.
Do people in that neighborhood seriously not want trees as a buffer between them and the golf course?

Well, they are white
