Former acting Attorney General Sally Yates implored the public to embrace American core values of freedom and justice or run the risk of letting an unnamed force at hand potentially ruin what makes America unique. She also called on Washington and the public to remember the lessons of Watergate and honor the rule of law.
"Over the course of our nations history, we have faced inflection points times when we had to decide who we are as a country and what we stand for. Now is such a time. Beyond policy disagreements and partisan gamesmanship, there is something much more fundamental hanging in the balance. Will we remain faithful to our countrys core values?" Yates wrote in an op-ed Tuesday.
Yates, who President Trump fired at the beginning of the year after she said the Justice
Department opposed his administration's travel ban executive order, warned of people who believe they are above the rule of law. She did not name Trump in the piece.
"This concept of equal protection recognizes that our countrys strength comes from honoring, not weaponizing, the diversity that springs from being a nation of Native Americans and immigrants of different races, religions and nationalities," Yates said.
Yates also pointed to the handling of Watergate as an example of how an administration surrendered to the rule of law when it was at fault, a hint that she is unhappy with the Trump administration's handling of multiple probes into Russia.
"This wall of separation is what ensures the public can have confidence that the criminal process is not being used as a sword to go after ones political enemies or as a shield to protect those in power. Its what separates us from an autocracy," she wrote.
Finally, Yates warned against political arguments that are steeped in "emotion and fear through polarizing rhetoric and fabrications."
She added that although the public cannot control what lawmakers preach, they can hold elected officials accountable for their words.
"So stand up. Speak out. Our country needs all of us to raise our collective voices in support of our democratic ideals and institutions. That is what we stand for. That is who we are. And with a shared commitment to our founding principles, that is who we will remain," she finished.
sounds like someone is running for something.
Sounds to me like Sally Yates was the one who failed to honor the rule of law.
Why give this asshat back stabber disloyal and misguided individual the time of day? She had a duty to perform, she was asked to do it, she failed to do it and she was fired...case closed.
Yes we should honor the rule of law.
Declare the Kenyanesian Usurpation null and void and all actions taken.
End illegal DACA.
Remove ALL illegal aliens
100 percent correct...when applied to Zero and Hitlary.
Her only rule of law is called political correctness.
Very artdul how she said we need to ignore fearmongerers while fearmongering Trump.
Long Tall Sally
Jump back in the alley
Did I miss something? She acted independently of the Executive order and the Supreme Court's final ruling. She acted contrary to the rule of law. So, what does she think she is haranguing about?
“She also called on Washington and the public to remember the lessons of Watergate and honor the rule of law.”
She wouldn’t recognize the “rule of law” if it bit her on the a$$!
IS this a joke? Coming from the one that refused to follow her boss’s orders?
Why didn’t she speak up about “The Rule of Law” when she was working for “The Great ObamaNation”?
Rule of Law under obama:
Ignored immigration laws he didn’t like
Made up immigration orders (DACA)
Fast and Furious
Using the IRS to go after political enemies
Using the EPA to go after political enemies
Using the FBI to go after political enemies
Shutting down the investigation of Hezbollah importing cocaine into America
Encouraged illegals to vote
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.
AND YOU DID NOTHING
“Declare the Kenyanesian Usurpation null and void and all actions taken.”
I hope that when President Trump gets a little further down the road to “winning,” that he opens an investigation into Obama’s birth certificate. Finally having the truth come out that he was an “illegal president” would make it a no brainer to do what you suggest.
And there is the liberal ethos in one word: Watergate. It is the ultimate in corruption. It is the reason for going into journalism and why Republicans and especially conservatives must be constantly monitored by the media. It is why special prosecutors must be let loose. Watergate is the all-encompassing, all-powerful, all-consuming reason for everything liberals do in the name of purity.
Yup. Ignore the criminal activity of the FBI agents who didn’t investigate Clinton because they wanted her to win. Ignore the ignoring of immigration law. Ignore Hezbollah importing cocaine. Ignore funneling grants to partisan groups.
Ignore all their illegality... And focus on the person who is heir victim.
Sounds like the Pinkos who try to claim open borders are somehow “patriotic”
