ALABAMA (WALA) - Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill is investigating a concern over potential voter fraud in last Tuesday's special Senate election. It all stems from a brief interview FOX10 News Reporter Kati Weis conducted at the Doug Jones victory party on election night when a young man made a comment that has now gone viral on social media.
The interview took place just minutes after the race had been called. While live on air, in the middle of the crowded party, Kati walked up to a number of jubilant supporters at random, asking them for their reactions to the big win. But, it was this question and answer that has caused controversy:
"Kati: Why are you excited to see this victory? Man: Because, we came here all the way from different parts of the country as part of our fellowship, and all of us pitched in to vote and canvas together, and we got our boy elected!" Merrill said he is trying to find out who the man is, and if he really meant what he said, or if he only misspoke.
"Well, it's very disconcerting when someone who's not from Alabama says that they participated in our election, so now it's incumbent upon us to try to identify this young man, to see what kind of role he played, if it was to simply play a canvassing roll, or if he was part of a process that went out and tried to register voters, or if he himself actually became a registered voter," said Merrill.
Merrill said, so far, there is no concrete evidence that any voter fraud has taken place.
"We don't have any evidence of people doing that, our numbers do not indicate that has happened, but when you have someone actually recorded on television saying that they voted, and that's what he said, then we've got to get to the bottom of that," said Merrill.
The Secretary of State's Office also said voter fraud would be unlikely because every voter is required to show a government photo identification card before casting a vote.
"We have one of the most stringent voting laws in the nation," said Merrill. FOX10 News has also been trying to find out who the man in question is, even reaching out to the Doug Jones campaign for a list of volunteers, but the Jones campaign said it does not have access to the countless groups who volunteered to help canvas and campaign.
Merrill said the Jones campaign has been cooperative with his investigation. It's also important to note, because the race received so much national attention, there were many campaign volunteers who came from all over the country to help get the vote out for Jones.
In fact, some celebrities, who do not live in Alabama, also came to Birmingham last week to speak in support of Jones, including famous basketball player Charles Barkley.
Meanwhile, Merrill said the results of the election will be completely certified sometime in the week after Christmas.
Have you shared those reports with the Secretary of State?

Fake news. The article in the link makes reference to Precinct 412. Precincts in Jefferson County have four digit numbers.

Fake news. The website cited as the source in the article, Ladies of Liberty, is a satire site. The small town of Bordalama, Alabama does not exist.
>>>We know thousands were bussed and flown in from out of state, led by liberal media and OBAMA HIMSELF:
Really? Did you read the Tweet?
I, a Black, was bussed from D.C. with a convoy of 739 buses holding more than 35,000 BLACKITTY BLACKS, on Monday night. We were personally escorted by Barack Obama, Megatron and Black Panther.
A convoy of 739 buses with 35,000 people rolling down the highway and not one picture?
>>>Why the snarky crap?
Because people keep putting out fake crap like the links in post #61. People will sit here all day and post about rampant voter fraud in this forum, but how many are really willing to put up their own money to prove it?
>>Too many stats of 90% vote for Jones...Too much saved for the end...<<
I watched Politico’s live tallying of the votes which was relayed on one of the blog sites. With 85.5% of the vote tallied Judge Moore was in the lead. In less than half an hour the remaining 14.5% of votes that were tallied swung the majority to Jones. I thought at the time, and still think, that voter fraud is what flipped the numbers at what amounted to the last minute.
And so it begins.
And this explains why Moores vote totals were so low.... I believe that many of his votes were destroyed or switched.
“Kati: Why are you excited to see this victory? Man: Because, we came here all the way from different parts of the country as part of our fellowship, and all of us pitched in to vote and canvas together, and we got our boy elected!” Merrill said he is trying to find out who the man is, and if he really meant what he said, or if he only misspoke.

I know I am a ‘glutton for punishment’ BUT
Just imagine - for a nano second - that Moore had won and this ‘kid’ was at the Moore HQ and made that statement.
THE WORLD WOULD HAVE STOPPED AND THE PRESS WOULD HAVE HAD A COW.
(If the D did bus people in etc, wouldn’t surprise me if a few wouldn’t have been in Moore HQ to deliver THAT msg if needed)
The mid east may be ‘backwoods’ inre elections BUT that purple thumb idea may be the answer.
OF COURSE, I conjure up a scene of people with buckets of purple ink running around and if YOU indicate you are not going to vote LIB, or GOPe they will grab you and dip your thumb for you BEFORE you vote....
We’d know all about this guy and the story would have been NYT front page news.
Moore lost? Big yawn from MSM.
Go, Roy! We will find out how many black voters they bussed in.
Puhlease. Seems to me the man stated that the voting lines were so long that he came back on several occasions to check the line length. He was not stating that he had returned to vote several times.
Not to me, not to the reporter. You seem to relish this defeat of Moore to the point where you can’t even listen to a news report without coming up with a totally contrived spin.
Tell them that they did vote for a bad man and are blinded by their own self righteousness.
