Motorists are being warned to avoid the area. "I was just shocked," said Peter Zimmerman of Olympia. "I couldn't believe it. It was like something out of a movie." State transportation officials say the train derailed near Mounts Road. View image on TwitterView image on Twitter

WSDOT Tacoma Traffic ✔ @wsdot_tacoma All SB lanes of I-5 blocked near Mounts Road in Pierce County due to derailed train car. Avoid area! 9:45 AM - Dec 18, 2017 33 33 Replies 470 470 Retweets 118 118 likes Twitter Ads info and privacy Amtrak officials said the train was the No. 501, which operates between Seattle and Portland. The train had just begun using a new high-speed route Monday morning. Lakewood city oficials had earlier expressed fears that the new route would cause serious accidents.
Amtrak service south of Seattle is temporarily suspended. Service from Seattle to points north and east is continuing to operate.
Some good could come of this derailment if it derails the California “Crazy Train” of Governor Gerry Brown. Talk about a boondoggle!!

I think south, by about 7 or so miles.
My good friend was the Engineer on this route for years, and said this corner was a 29 mph zone. Of course they upgraded the track bed and put new tracks in...plus the new gravity defying high speed train set....that last part was sarcasm.
As close as this is to the anarchists of Olympia, sabotage is a possibility.
“Really not a bad curve!”
I think the perspective compression of telephoto lenses is fooling people about the curve.
On a satellite image, the curve looks designed for high speeds.
The only state of emergency I know about Inslee is that I need dramamine from watching his mouth open and close. Something's odd there....
I am surprised this dim wit AG has not filed a suit against the Feds. He's a bit slow today!
Suits get headlines,5 minutes on the Seattle TV news and governor candidate campaign contributions. Cause/Effect.
What do the bookies in Vegas say?
My bet unless totally disproven is that some aloha snackbar idiot or a leftcoastliberaltreehugger type (and accomplices) is responsible.

Yeah I have been over that trestle and it is scarry as all get out. The Huey Long bridge is no walk in the park either. The deck is a little wider than it used to be, maybe early 1950’s standards.
I love riding Amtrack. Just the thought that every drink I buy and every mile I ride is heavily subsidized by taxes on the wine and cheese liberals makes my day.
The rest of us dearly love paying our taxes for your wonderful rides ...
Wow, there’s a choo-choo ghost from Christmas past!
.
As are almost all curves on through lines!
Rare in the age of Amtrack to find anything not up to current engineering standards on through routes.
I’m confident that this is pure Antifa in action.
You are right.
This is an Antifa ‘event.’
Amtrak won't pay. Taxpayers will.
The story has pretty much disappeared down the memory hole. And damage control is still being done for Amtrak in the enemedia.
Too bad Shelia Jackson Lee wasn’t on board. That would have been a hoot. We need to be sure that she gets a front seat on the California Special whenever that’s ready.
