WSDOT Tacoma Traffic ✔ @wsdot_tacoma All SB lanes of I-5 blocked near Mounts Road in Pierce County due to derailed train car. Avoid area! 9:45 AM - Dec 18, 2017 33 33 Replies 470 470 Retweets 118 118 likes Twitter Ads info and privacy Amtrak officials said the train was the No. 501, which operates between Seattle and Portland. The train had just begun using a new high-speed route Monday morning. Lakewood city oficials had earlier expressed fears that the new route would cause serious accidents.
Amtrak service south of Seattle is temporarily suspended. Service from Seattle to points north and east is continuing to operate.
“Thank you for all of the photos.”

Yer welcome, I’m just taking screecaps from the live stream here -
https://www.cbsnews.com/live
F=ma. So high speed wouldn’t help.
Looks like the front engine is down on I-5, so (it seems to me) front of train went off to the right of the tracks, not making the curve for whatever reason. Then train split as last couple of cars got whipsawed and came off to the LEFT of the tracks, just before the bridge.
Of course I don’t “know” what happened, a full investigation is needed, but that’s how this aerial overview makes it appear.
Something on the tracks is terrorism. A photographer that road the train on Friday said they took the curve at 78 mph so speed is not the cause.
.
Oh yea! - That critical 2 MPH made the difference!
Welk, I’m really wondering about the state of emergency Inslee has declared....
Could be leftist loonies in that area, they have sabotaged rail tracks before, although usually aimed specifically at energy/oil/coal shipments, equipment, etc.
Would be strange for leftists to hit out at passenger rail travel, though, since that is usually something they want to promote..... but hard to know what might set off ANTIFA and similar enviro-whackos.
Seeing online how ANTIFA BRAGGED about putting concrete on the tracks in Tacoma
“A photographer that road the train on Friday said they took the curve at 78 mph so speed is not the cause.”

If I were just walking along that curve, I’d slow down!
.
Do you have your self-driving prison car yet?
They’re all the rage!
.
Any relation to the Atlanta Airport outage?
Who knows but ANTIFA has said how easy it is to disrupt rail service..even bragged about shutting down a train in Medford, Oregon
As it should, considering recent, Nov 29, 2017, threats by anti-fa in the NW.
Antifa-Anarchists Sabotage Traib Olympia
"Police have raided an Antifa encampment in Olympia, Washington, following a train being sabotaged by anti-fracking activists but the anarchists claiming credit for the act have vowed to continue until every officer is down.
Yesterday: Planes
Today: Trains
Tomorrow: Automobiles
.
Love to see a link on that!
If this was caused by antifa everyone who says they agree with them should be arrested. It’s time to crack down. BTW, who is Inslee?
Knowing that moron he and his demo-witted AG will blame it on Trumps immigration plan, AGW, and scrapping net neutrality...
Well it was on twitter but someone above posted a link to something similar that happened
