Sen. John McCain headed back to Arizona today and will miss the tax reform vote this week.
Meghan McCain's new husband, The Federalist's Ben Domenech gave an update on the senator's condition after the longtime Arizona senator was hospitalized earlier this week.
'Well, John, I'm happy to say that he's doing well,' Domenech answered Face the Nation host John Dickerson, who had asked about the Republican lawmaker. 'He's in good spirits. And he's looking forward to heading back home in Arizona for the holidays.'
CBS News later reported that McCain is heading directly to Arizona and miss key votes on the Republican tax package, which will take place next week.
McCain's absence shouldn't derail the package, despite the slim GOP majority in the Senate, as Sens. Bob Corker, a Tennessee Republican, and Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican, have said they would vote in favor of the bill after, at first, suggesting they wouldn't.

Apparently he’s not doing well
I suspect he is doing very, very poorly and his SIL and others are just speaking for him. He may well be incapable now of making any statements himself.
He has done much harm to our republic, but we should pray for him and his family.
Juan McLame doesn’t have the courage to resign so he will be the same albatross he has always been for as long as he can. Right up to his dying breath no doubt.
An honorable man would have already resigned to spend their last days in quality time with people who love him. I think all those who truly like the guy are in the DC swamp.
They have to be on the floor of the senate to vote. Thats the rules.
He’s not doing well. He will be lucky to see the new year.
McCain went home to die. Don’t know if it will be 1 week, or one month, but it will be soon.
I really wish I cared.

I was thinking same thing. In this age of global communications on the go it seems there should be a process for an absentee vote or remote vote.
Under the circumstances I have to wonder why they cant accept his vote from where he is.
Yes. Why not?
I wonder if they will go full Wellstone, and/or full state service/procession.
Under the circumstances I have to wonder why they cant accept his vote from where he is.
Precisely.
Ask the 100+ dead sailors on the USS Forrestal how honorable his service was.
sorry he is going thru his illness, but dumbas mccain’s been so prideful instead of doing right thing and stepping down so some one able to think clearly and do the job could have been actually working to help AZ and country.
Then why did he win the 2008 Republican primaries?
Because the liberal media touted the “maverick’ theme during the primaries only to predictably turn on him for Obama.
The real story of his three - count ‘em three - plane crashes due to pilot error were covered up because both his grandfather and father were admirals. As was his collusion with the North Vietnamese.
How about openly dating his current wife before divorcing his first wife after she suffered disfiguring injuries in a car crash?
John McCain and honor do not belong in the same sentence.
He’s at Walter Reed and can’t stay in town for the vote?
He must look like hell.
He had himself wheeled through the Phoenix airport today looking spirited, presentable and smiling.
