All of a sudden George is worried about the imperial presidency? I guess he would have preferred the alternative, where companies get noticed based on how much they donated to the Clinton Foundation.
To: Oshkalaboomboom
you have not been paying attention to Congresss creation, by improperly delegated powers, of the imperial presidency.
Thanks, George, but this is no different from the import quotas General Motors and the UAW pushed through in 1981. On the news of quotas, GM increased the price of their cars across all lines and gave their execs large bonuses. I swore I’d never buy another GM product again, and I have not.
If the washing machine tariffs eventuate, I hope Americans will similarly vow to never buy Whirlpool again.
As for Congress’s acquiescence to the Imperial Presidency, it’s been going on since at least the Civil War and is kin to the blatant, daily federal over-reach that was supposed to be reined in by “enumeration of powers.” What a joke.

I wish Will would come out and say that two times two equalled eight. It would double my net worth.

If this tax cut goes through, it should give Whirlpool an advantage.

Will also does not understand the horrific constraints on appliance manufacturers by the EPA. The water levels are jimmied so standards are met.
Since the standards result in lousy equipment overall, consumers are opting for cheaper lousy equipment.

To: Oshkalaboomboom
If you are wondering how presidents came to have such discretion to impose taxation on American consumers, you have not been paying attention to Congresss creation, by improperly delegated powers, of the imperial presidency.Funny that George is only worrying about this now that Trump is President.
To: Chickensoup
The ultra low water levels means detergent isn't rinsed out of clothing. Having to wash cloths twice - once with soap - once without - seems wasteful and defeats the purpose of the environuts but it's better than family skin rashes.
Hopefully President Trump can get around to some serious deregulation on washing machines, dish washers and toilets.

I have a total of ten houses, seven of which are rentals. I avoid Whirlpool like the plague. If you get one, avoid any fancy electronics and buy the warranty. The simplest failures require a circuit card that costs as much as the whole appliance. Whirlpool creates a mouth vacuum.

Well, this is is FUBAR.
Just went to find a meme and the only things that came up were completely useless.
I typed in Maytag Repairman, went to images on Google and saw mostly BS memes about Mueller and other stuff having nothing to do with my search.

<> Yes he has already had an effect. The proposed 2018 DOE standards for water levels in dishwashers would have been horrendous.

I think the fact that George Will is writing for National Review is an indication of how far left that formerly great publication had slid.

I add 4 GALLONS of water to my highest setting to fill the tubs and get my laundry clean.
Still looking for someone to change the actual controller.

I add a tsp or so of real phosphate to both my laundry and dishwasher loads.
I've got about 15 lbs of TSP in my stash which, at my age, may be a lifetime supply.
To: RightField
I have some too, but frankly I find that using enough water really makes a difference.

Lower corporate taxes means more money for whirlpool to open new distribution channels, increase advertising or invest in research and development.
