Final GOP tax bill repeals ObamaCare mandate
The Hill ^

The final Republican tax-reform bill unveiled Friday repeals ObamaCare’s individual insurance mandate, leaving the GOP poised to blow a significant hole in the health-care law next week.

The change, which takes effect in 2019, removes one of the least popular parts of ObamaCare, but one that many experts warn is necessary to make the law function smoothly.

Without a mandate, there is less incentive for healthy people to enroll and balance out the costs of the sick. That is expected to lead to premium increases and could lead insurers to drop out of markets, potentially leaving some areas of the country with no coverage options.

Republicans say repeal of the mandate is a form of tax relief, because it lifts a penalty on people who decide not to buy coverage.

What’s really annoying about this bill, is how much of the middle-class part sunsets in about five years.

What the “H”?

Isn’t this also how Medicare works too but through other taxation? Younger healthy people paying taxes for seniors health care.

“...but one that many experts warn is necessary to make the law function smoothly.”

So it’s functioning smoothly, is it? Ha!

“Without a mandate, there is less incentive for healthy people to enroll and balance out the costs of the sick. That is expected to lead to premium increases and could lead insurers to drop out of markets, potentially leaving some areas of the country with no coverage options.”

And that’s not happening now, is it? Gosh. How did the insurance market ever function without a mandate?

Does it repeal the employer mandate? That would be a boon to small business.

And does the bill “sunset” this repeal down the road sometime, like most Republican bills do.

The majority of the Medicare recipients PAID into medicare throughout their working years. Obamacare is a forced plan for the younger taxpayers to pay for the younger, and older lower income, and ofter Non tax paying recipients. And if the middle class taxpayer Cannot Afford the higher rates to Pay for the low/no income recipients, they are PENALIZED. PURE efing socialism right there. Where as medicare is not.....except now they are qualifying a bunch of illegals, and rapefugees that haven’t paid in a cent.

your welcome...it really makes no difference because CONgress will write up the repeal in a way that 1: in will be in effect After the dems win back the senate. 2: there will be provisions, trip wires and exemptions that will never make it go away, and we will pay for it forever. They NEVER do ANYthing in Our interests, just theirs and their special interests Donors.

What is the bill number? Every news source seems to omit that salient fact that would let us read details for ourselves.

the first thing Trump did in office back in January was an executive order to NOT enforce the penalty...the IRS still mailed the forms out , but you dont have to comply. Now, after this is signed, its no longer a law. Democrats would have to start from scratch. They originally said it wasnt a tax...SCOTUS said it was. Other than a fluke election like 2008, they’ll never get that again. Trump is literally saving this country that was on the verge of becoming western europe.....chilling.

“2019?”

Of course, god forbid these predators do anything for the people they live off. I bet their b.s corporate cuts don’t take a year to kick in. What a ripoff.

The dems and the media are crowing that millions will lose healthcare.

What they are not saying is that some, who are no longer required to buy health insurance, will not buy it, and so, fewer will be insured. That would be the truth, and dems never say the truth.

It’s health insurance, not healthcare.

my husband and I aren’t legally married. We dont’ get married due to the horrendous matriarchy, errrr I mean “child” support rules here in NYS.

His ex-shrew IS legally married to her six figure 2nd husband and on his insurance. CSEU doesn’t count her husband’s income in the calculations, but they certainly would count MY income as we are the payORs. The new calculation form (since Obummer in 2010) wants to know EVERYONE’s income in the paYOR’s household (even if dad is housing his mother who is on social security—her income is fodder for consideration in paying out CS)
Title IV-D of the Social Security Act (thanks, Bill “the Rapist” Clinton) pays out “incentives” to CSEUs who have the highest amount of matriarchy, errrrr I mean “child” support in the coffers. In other words, custody is 99.9% awarded to the biomom and dad is told to shake his wallet upside down.

Gay marriage killed domestic partnership insurance as well.

So therefore, my husband can’t go on my insurance at work nor can he afford insurance for himself so he has to pay the penalty—he’s pushing 50 and we’ve been together longer than his first sham of a marriage which lasted almost 10 years. He still has two “kids” left to go paying CS at $185 a week—both of which have been alienated from him by his ex-shrew and her family. Aged 19 and 15 (no CS does NOT end at 18 here in NYS). As long as the 19 year old keeps in college (she’s failing out of community college) the cash cow keeps on flowing.
