What if Jeff Sessions is not asleep, but instead playing possum?
American Thinker ^ | December 15, 2017 | Brian C. Joondeph

Conventional wisdom is that Attorney General Jeff Sessions is asleep at the wheel – from recusing himself unnecessarily from the Trump-Russia collusion investigation to doing nothing about the politicization and weaponization of the Department of Justice. He also gave free rein to his deputy A.G., Rod Rosenstein, who is in turn allowing Special Counsel Robert Mueller unlimited time, money, and jurisdiction to investigate President Trump's entire life.

And Jeff Sessions, instead of being asleep, may be playing possum, lying in wait, ready to pounce when the moment is right.

One problem I see with this analogy is that a possum does not feign death to lay in wait to pounce. It does so to get up and run away.

Last night on Hanity, Gingrich told Sessions in no uncertain terms to get his ass in gear and do his job.

I am thinking it may be hard, if not impossible, to do your job inside DOJ if you are perceived as a flaccid, pusillanimous, timorous, retiring, vacuous, demure, spiritless, subordinated, recusing, Casper Milquetoast, which is what he looks like from out here.

Now I know that's harsh, but it is what it looks like. The guy lost me totally when he made the "guilty until proven innocent" statements about Moore. That told me he was likely a tool of the 'turtle' at best and an undisciplined managerial moron at worst..

“This is an interesting argument about the silence of Sessions. “

I call it rubbish. Whatever Sessions may hypothetically be trying to possibly do during his one year nap will never compensate for the damages he has ALREADY caused to Trump’s presidency (loss of a senate seat, the complete distrust of the DOJ and the FBI, the media relentless attacks against Trump on the inexistent Russian colusion, the Mueller’s witch hunt and the many Clinton operatives still agitating in the DOJ...).

I am utterly disgusted by the Sessions apologists and their stupid blathering.

We should be through defending this guy.

Some here don't seem to remember Lois Lerner was let off the hook by Sessions.

new American Springtime

As in, spring time for Trump(ster) and A-meri-ca? You many want to re-think that. LOL

As for the main body of the debate, it may be true that some who believe (aka fervently wish) Sessions is playing an extremely deep game are ignoring/dismissing visible evidence to the contrary. However, it is also equally valid that those who hold the view that Sessions is part of the swamp also have a long list of difficult assumptions that need to be true.

Perhaps the most untenable is that .gov is 99% corrupt. That, by any definition, is demonstrably not true. Even 75% compromised would be an astoundingly high number, yet the remaining 25% white hats would represent a vast army for good. In Congress alone, that would amount to over 100 patriots, many in position to prevent/block efforts to impeach Trump. Secondly, it also requires Sessions, RR, et al to be part of some intricate conspiracy; as we've seen, the team assembled was pre-damaged from the start. Why?

For now, I'm still in the Sessions=possum camp. It makes no sense to me that what we know about Trump, his entire history, his incredible achievement in winning the election, etc, does not square at all with the Sessions=swamp scenario. And please, don't offer the 'we'll impeach if you fire him' explanation. Since when does one sit cowardly while forces press in? Not many, and no one like Trump; rather, it's bring on the UCMJ, constitutional crisis, call out the 60m militia, and let's get this party started.

The time tested method of coverup.....Investigate everything conclude nothing.

I don't comment on open investigations
and everything is under investigation.

"I’m tiring of the FR Sessions-bashers"

Definitely.

The asinine Never-Jeff crowd has called him everything from swamp creature to brain dead. The dumbest accusations involve calling him some sort of liberal plant. Sheeesh, can these Freeper even read?

That is their assessment of Trump's first, most loyal, rock-solid DC supporter. Sessions is such a great conservative that the ACU gave him a lifetime score of 95%.

Beyond that, I trust the very conservative voters of AL much, MUCH more than the knee-jerks here who seem to think that simply being part of the #MeToo, Never-Jeff movement makes them somehow smarter than Freepers who are able to reason.

In 2014, Jeff Session won 97% of the AL vote.

The ability to reason means you are fine to wonder / debate, in total hindsight, whether the recusal was good or bad. Personally, I think it was just because he is uncommonly honest and was bending over backward to avoid giving the enemy more arrows against the unborn / infant Trump admin.

It is absolutely revealing of some here to suggest he is asleep. For crying out loud, the guy is a machine on THE NUMBER ONE issue Trump hired him to accomplish: the war against illegal immigration. Rounding up MS-13, fighting - and WINNING - the legal battles regarding Trump's brave new refuge policies, going after sanctimonious cities, etc. I never dreamed so much freaking progress on this front could be made this fast. If he is this freaking good while asleep, I can't wait to see what he does awake. Hail to Jeff!

These are absolutely NOT the actions of a guy who is a deep state or Dem mole or whatever silly nonsense some Freepers endlessly, mindlessly parrot.

Thank the Lord in heaven that the DOJ is not run by these bashing bandwagon Never-Jeff crowd. Or none of the horrible crimes coming to the surface today would have seen the light of day. They seem to have preferred everybody be fired day one - which would leave nobody to on the illegal immigrant front. And prefer we instead spend a political eternity fighting obstruction charges until the election of Chuck Schumer to president in 2020.

And the Never-Jeff's seem to want Sessions to do what we ALL rightfully complained about when Holder / Lynch / Comey were doing it. Just taking the law into their own hands and making decisions emotionally and politically.

So, the question is: Why did you bring his name into it?

Maybe the question should be why does mentioning the name bother you so much? Would it have bothered you this much if he had been named Rastus?

“Hmmm, why are we so defensive?? Are only gentile names allowed to be stated?”

1) No, any names can be used.

2) I have seen many, many instances of so-called patriotic Americans on FR, who share many beliefs about what this country should be with most of us here (including myself), but who also have extremely anti-Semetic views. They are always prominently mentioning the names of Leftists who are Jewish, virtually always without mentioning other/allied Leftists who are not Jewish (so as to present the false appearance that most of the important/controlling Leftists out there are Jewish). JohnG45’s first post, to which I reacted, seemed to me to be following that exact pattern (”seemed” being the key word there).

JohnG45 - in view of what I stated above, I hope that you understand why I took a negative view of your post and, because of that, you. IF I made an error in doing so, please accept my sincere apologies. I don’t like to accuse people of things for which they are blameless (I’ve been on the receiving end - both on FR and in real life - and it isn’t any fun). I would, however, appreciate it if in the future you (or anyone reading this post) made it more clear in an initial post mentioning Jews that you were not among the anti-Semites - these people often sound very normal/reasonable until this subject comes up.

Peace.

It’s far more likely that he’s an ex Senator who’s never had to take responsibility for anything, show any production to keep his employment, and expects the whole world to move at the glacial pace of the Senate.

In other words, just biding his time till we start paying his exorbitant retirement plan.

I’m a farm boy, know what happens to possums when they lie down in front of me as a kid. Used to see lots of them play possum when you found them in a haystack, smacked them with a fence post.

Pretty much how Sessions will end up.

The only evidence we have that Sessions is not doing anything is that he is not on TV all the time telling us what he's doing.

Good for him. He's been prosecutor before. He knows, now is not the time to be spouting off about things in public before all the ducks are lined up.

We don't know what's going on behind the scenes because that's how they want it for now.

Knowing Sessions' character, background and history in Alabama and the Senate, I find it hard to believe, the man just did complete 180 on us when he got into this office and is just sitting in the AG seat doing nothing.

I will give the benefit of the doubt to the man for now. I think he's doing his job but just not announcing to the public what's he's up to. That's the only way to run a swamp-clearing investigation for it to be successful.

Just taking the law into their own hands

Unfortunately the Law is in his hands Buddha. He just doesn't seem to have a clue what to do with it, other than letting Lois Lerner off the hook, of course.
