I do not like Dustin Hoffman’s political beliefs. Dustin Hoffman deserves to be condemned or acquitted with facts and not accusations, as should have been for Roy Moore.
Odd is it not, Hoffman and Moore in the same boat. We do not know the truth about either one.
For my personal opinion, once the statute of limitations has run out all accusations are without merit. There is a damn good reason for this law.
Or we can all become Muslim. At least they have their women in line.
Agreed, see my post #41
Thanks Jet Jaguar.
Odd how all these Hollywood ‘men’ claimed to be liberals FOR WOMEN’S RIGHTS. Seems the only ‘right’ they cared about was abortion. These ‘men’ sure didn’t want any babies after their abuse...
know what my one theory is?
It's the sixties biting back. It is the sons of "flower power" parents who are now assaulting. It's the way they were brought up.
Nope, not me. Anger would not change anything and I knew that. Inappropriate behavior by someone(s) when I was a teen and I dealt with it. Got out of the situation(s) and avoided ever being along with either one afterwards. People knew one of the men was a creep but not how much! Back in the day, teens and women could slap or kick. We knew it. Did I? No, but if it had happened again, you betcha!
I don’t understand all of these accusations that are so old. smh I am over it.
Here we go again.
I believe NONE of these people anymore-———it’s getting dangerous for MEN out there-——and I’m a woman.
.
Still she said, he said and no proof. Sorry, 20 yr old charges don’t count.
Ok. Im sorry. But there were so many FReepers on there with their fatigue about victims coming forward. I can shrug off some benign hit on her attempts, but most of the egregious stories are about vile power grabs and unwanted assaults. These assaults have been tolerated for too long. THAT is the problem here.
Forget Dustin Hoffman's case. Let's talk a little more generally.
Of course this type of behavior should be condemned when indecent and punished when criminal. But the passage of time has to be taken into account somehow.
In most cases, bringing these types of claims after several years or decades makes it impossible for an accused to defend their reputation or position in society.
So for civil and criminal liability, some sort of limitations period makes sense.
As for reputation and social position, which includes politics and celebrity, the First Amendment and defamation law are the best the legal system can muster. So there is no deadline for sexual misconduct claims. But the potential penalties are different.
It is up to informal social and cultural forces to filter the information and act accordingly. The stronger the culture, the more fair this issue is dealt with.
And if I may humbly speak for some FR men, these claims can also be used as political weapons. And I am going to hold stale claims brought against conservative candidates in a liberal media frenzy to a very high standard of proof.
My daughter would not be allowed to be anywhere near Hollywood in the first place. Any parent who permits their child to be in the entertainment industry is guilty of child abuse IMHO.
Post#20 - sounds like you may know something.
Hey Hoffman....one word....plastics.....stick to the sexbots. Coo Coo Ca Shu
Look at the smug arrogant look on the face of this POS.
Remember back then Hillary and Bill were desperately trying to save themselves from Bills reckless behavior.
Women he assaulted were lined up and talking.
Hillarys precious political ambitions were in danger.
Hillarys Bimbo Eruption Team zoned in on Bills accusers....they were demeaned, debased, marginalized...called trailer trash, bimbos, sluts and loony tunes.
Thats the reason many women did not speak out back then.
EXCERPT/HOLLYWOOD REPORTER----After a breathtaking number of women (84 and counting) have spoken loudly and powerfully in recent weeks to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct, the producer faces prison sentences, a harried sale of assets and restitution for victims........and bankruptcy.
<><> CIVIL ACTION The Weinstein Co. has been hit with a $5 million negligence claim from an actress in Los Angeles. Another $4 million suit in Canada from an anonymous actress asserts infliction of emotional distress by Harvey Weinstein, one of his assistants and The Weinstein Co. (and also targets Disney, which once owned Miramax).
<><> CRIMINAL ACTION---How (and Where) Harvey Weinstein Might Go to Jail--- Sources close to Harvey say those emails are needed to show that some of his accusers may have enticed him and maybe even thanked him for wonderful liaisons. That sort of strategy will hardly win over detractors others, like Bill O'Reilly, who have been accused of misdeeds, haven't swayed opinion by promulgating selfies and thank-you notes from their alleged victims but it's at least an attempt to sow doubt in the minds of prosecutors contemplating criminal charges.
The emails also might be used to show complicity on the part of his colleagues.
I too am tiring of all these claims of things that purportedly happened years and years ago, but if they were actually assaulted, why didnt they file charges or do something about it at the time?
FWIW I once had a boss, the owner of the company I worked for as a bookkeeper and who my husband knew, who was a pig, actually more of an immature frat boy who thought that everyone loved his dirty jokes and other things like his constant parade of bimbo models coming in and out of his office (his side business was as a photographer and by photographer, I dont mean Ansel Adams sort of stuff, more like Penthouse), and he had said things to me like you have such a pretty face, if you would only lose a few pounds and get a boob job, Id love to photograph you. I told him in no uncertain terms that I had no interest in being one of his models
But one day after I had dealt with calls from multiple vendors who were threating to cut off our credit and deliveries because the business was in trouble and their invoices were unpaid, and feeling very stressed, he came up behind me and started massaging my neck and shoulders and also grinding his groin up against me, saying oh you look so tense, let me help you relax.
What did I do?
I stood up from my chair, spun around, grabbed him by his shoulders, looked him straight in the eyes with my knee raised and said, If you ever, ever touch me like that again, Im going to thrust my knee so far up your junk, that you will be coughing up your balls for the next month. Get it?
At that point I wasnt afraid that he might fire me. I had already been searching for another job, but he didnt. He actually apologized. I found another job a few weeks later and resigned.
