Sen. John McCain was admitted Wednesday to Walter Reed Hospital for "normal side effects" of his cancer treatments, his office said in a statement. "As ever, he remains grateful to his physicians for their excellent care, and his friends and supporters for their encouragement and good wishes," the statement said.

McCain is currently receiving treatment for glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The 80-year-old was diagnosed in July.

In an interview with Lesley Stahl for "60 Minutes" in September, McCain spoke about facing the tough diagnosis. "They said that the prognosis is very, very serious. Some say 3 percent, some say 14 percent. You know, it's -- it's a very poor prognosis," he said. "So I just said, 'I understand. Now we're going to do what we can, get the best doctors we can find and do the best we can.' And at the same time celebrate with gratitude a life well lived."

Earlier Wednesday, McCain's daughter, Meghan, a co-host of "The View," grew tearful as she interviewed former Vice President Joe Biden, whose son Beau died from glioblastoma in 2015.

"There's a lot of things happening," Biden told Meghan McCain. "There's breakthroughs occurring now ... It could happen."

Generally one isn’t Hospitalized for ‘Normal” side affects from cancer treatment

It happens and particularly when the chemo suppresses the immune system or precipitates organ failure and most particularly renal and hepatic..

That’s why I said ‘usually’ doesn’t under ‘normal’ treatment......I doubt the treatment he’s getting is the norm since this is so aggressive and the prognosis so very poor...they’re going to throw everything they can at it.

Same with my mom.... and best friends husband who had brain cancer. Not hospitalized until close to the end.

But who knows really...He’s a Senator with ‘Gold Card’ Insurance....so he can pop in and out on a dime if he wants.

I doubt that’s going to be too helpful in his case......it’s a nasty and deadly cancer which he’s just not going to survive from. The sooner he goes the better for the family as it’s a really rough thing to see as this type of brain cancer progresses.

Very few good outcomes with this type cancer. The doctors probably won’t matter. The point I was making was he gets to choose the best doctors. A choice most of us don’t get because of the insurance system he forced upon us. He will even get experimental treatment which us deplorables will never be allowed to get. So sick of the double standards.

I understand.....

One of the reasons I like Trump so much is he made his fortune in life ‘before’ he took office... unlike so many other politicians who go into office to rape the American people....for a lifetime.... as mcain has.

1. I sympathize with your history - and (almost) wish it were not McCain’s fate.

2. Interesting that McCain can go into a hospital right before the tax bill vote..... Going to committee is important, but the REAL VOTE is on the final bill.

3. And would it not be dramatic for him to either force it dead (by not showing up at all!!), or by “voting from a wheelchair/hospital bed as the “final no vote” (of his “heroic public career” - as would be proclaimed by his adoring national press corpse.)

"Trial is for BXQ-350."

I just read up on it, and saw a video, all I can say is wow, I had heard of something in this arena, this must be it. I hear great things about Rituximab from someone who just took the therapy. Can Rituximab be used for what McCain has, I don't believe so...

I’m not sure I believe anything he or his aides tell us... about anything. I’ll just leave it at that.

I think he should be in prison for his role in the "dossier" which in my mind was sedition.

"The average glioblastoma life expectancy is less than a year, with only around 2 percent of people living for longer than three years after diagnosis."

It would be just our rotten luck for McCain to be among the 2%.

Would Joe Six Pack get the benefit of being hospitalized for “normal” side effects of cancer treatment?
