In a shocking political earthquake, the Republican Party has lost a Senate election in Alabama. For perspective on how difficult that feat was, the closest previous Senate contest in that state over the last two decades was a...19-point GOP victory. Just three years ago, Jeff Sessions ran unopposed. Donald Trump carried 'Bama by 28 points last fall. In my election preview post yesterday, I wrote that an upset by liberal Doug Jones was improbably plausible, due exclusively to the disastrously awful candidate Republicans had nominated. Apologies for quoting myself, but here you go:

And which were entirely the consequence of those accusations against Moore, and the feckless/treasonous response of our Party officials to them.
I think you ability to comprehend logic is what is lacking. When you nominate someone who can’t win, who has a track record of losing, and then loses, it is your fault.
More won the primary against a seated opponent.
That was winning ace.
This is so far over your head it’s pointless to go on.
Only establishment Republicans are stupid enough to undermine their own candidate and intentionally lose a seat in a conservative state.
you got that right
Luther was dirty. He dropped the investigation of Gov. Bentley in exchange for the senate seat.
Why don’t you give him a juice box for winning a friggin primary. He can go share it with Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, Sharon Angle and other losers who lost elections that count.
Look, you said he couldn’t win elections.
He won his last one against an incumbent appointment, a sitting U. S. Senator.
Are you to thick to grasp that?
Then you try to play it off as if it meant nothing.
It was your standard. You f’d up. Don’t blame me.
Only establishment Republicans are stupid enough to undermine their own candidate and intentionally lose a seat in a conservative state.
you got that right
If one thing we learned from the Trump election and this election is that there is only an illusion of a two-party system, exists.

Justify and analyze the JUDGE ROY MOORE defeat as much as you want. The stark reality is that ALABAMA elected a Senator who believes in PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION and many stand accountable for making it happen through their false witness.
You are right. Everything else is BS. A fat load of BS. Shame on you, Alabama. Shame.
God’s ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts.
God will have people step up to do some thing and not have it go the way people would think. it’s not about what we think should happen but about what God is doing on a whole bigger picture and in individuals through the process.
God allowed Jones to win for a reason - maybe to shake up the people of AL, maybe to shake up the nation, maybe to turn the heart of Jones toward God, maybe to help moore learn some things too. Lots of good can come from this outcome that at the moment looks bad.
You outran cops in 73? I outran them four times in one week when I was a young soldier posted in Winnipeg in 03. I guess I should turn myself in and ever seek a political position heh.
For later
He lost because he was a Flawed Candidate to begin before the women accusers came out. After those women came out he was a Toxic candidate regardless of the truth
The governor could have waited until 2018 to call the election and maybe should have. I am amazed at hoe close the election was, those write in votes cost Moore the election.
Trump though was right in the beginning when he backed Luther Strange and he could have won.
I thought the Democrat party had all the mind numbed robots.
It appears that there may be plenty in the Republican Party as they do not see the big picture. They can be led by a 40 year old claims/gossip that a few deem as the new rules in order to oust some.
Blame the loss on the other Al senator.
amen!
“The problem the GOP has right now is that it has no credibility to even put together a coherent message ... because it’s been in power in Washington for a year, and has absolutely nothing to show for it.”
oh, it will have something to show for it when this corporate tax cut is passed. but i predict when the average middle class taxpayer finds out that this supposed tax cut isn’t what it is cracked up to be, then come the next election after they start seeing a reduced refund or having to pay more in taxes, President Trump and the repubs are going to be in trouble.
i hope this isn’t the case, but i think it’s going to be like obamacare: the albatross around their necks.
so just as the cost of obamacare was being shouldered by all the healthy young people who had to sign up or pay a fine, this tax bill is being paid for by the average middle class taxpayer for the benefit of big permanent tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy. Touting this as a tax cut to all the middle class deplorables who elected Trump is the same as obama promising that you would save $2500 on your insurance premiums and could keep your doctor. This isnt a tax cut, but a tax increase for the average American.
and where is the inclusion in the conference bill of the elimination of the mandate that people must have health insurance or pay a fine? has that been excised out, in order to buy support from some waivering congress critters?
the standard deduction is being not quite doubled [for individuals, it would go from $6,350 to $12,000, and for married joint filers, it raises that deduction from $12,700 to $24,000], but then they are eliminating the individual personal exemptions [of $4,050 per person] for yourself, your spouse and your dependents; thereby, reducing the doubled standard deductions real net worth to $7,950 for singles [a real net increase of $1,600 from existing std deduction] and to $15,900 for joint filers [a real net increase of $3,900 from the current std deduction]. A couple with 2 children will have their $24,000 doubled standard deduction reduced by $16,200 for a real net reduction of $7,800. so they give with one hand but take away with the other. in addition, they are eliminating the extra deduction for those over 65 or blind.
Now, if you take the standard deduction, you cannot then itemize; therefore, giving up the normal deductions for medical expenses, long term care insurance expenses, state and local taxes, property taxes [under the senate bill], mortgage interest deduction limits, student loan interest deductions, moving expenses, alimony, dependent care assistance accounts, casualty and theft losses, unreimbursed job expenses and tax preparation fees.
Thank you.
So, you want us to believe they are conservative morons that would rather have liberal Democrat in office than Moore? Sorry, I don't buy it.
Sitting out elections and letting liberals win is brain dead.
Have you been a coma for the last six months? Most prominent GOP primary challenger running has said the same thing (Kelli Ward and Tarkanian, etc.).
That is what you say when the base of the party hates McConnell.
I like Roy Moore. I wanted him to win. That he lost is on HIM. He ran a poor campaign and when given the chance to defend himself he failed miserably.
It seems more likely you have been duped if you think he wasnt personally responsible for losing the vote in deep red Alabama.
