As Floridas politically powerful men fear becoming targets of sexual harassment allegations, the new-found awareness of a male-dominated Legislature has come with a cost: Women are collateral damage.
Female staffers and lobbyists who returned to the Capitol last week for pre-session meetings discovered many male legislators will no longer meet with them privately. Accustomed to Tallahassees Southern culture, where men and women casually and routinely greet each other with hugs, legislators are doing an awkward dance to replace a hug with a handshake. And the fear of retaliation against women who brought forward allegations or those who may in the future is as raw as the fear that legislators political enemies could turn sexual harassment claims into new political weapons.
I had a senator say, I need my aide here in the room because I need a chaperone, said Jennifer Green, a veteran lobbyist, after meeting with a senator in his Capitol office to discuss a clients issue. I said, Senator, why do you need a chaperone? I dont feel uncomfortable around you, do you feel uncomfortable around me? Well, he said, anyone can say anything with the door shut. ...

***What it shows is that the men don’t believe the women are playing fair and telling the truth.***
Remember the old movie KITTEN WITH A WHIP in which Ann Margaret holds John Forsythe hostage with the words...”All I have to do is mess my hair and scream! One look at me and who would believe YOU!”
Yes, exactly. Never believe that it was unintentional.
This ACME Inc Rocket and roller skates is sure to work.
I wonder how many high profile men will get themselves outfitted with a body cam of some sort.
Its becoming too dangerous to interact with certain women. Trouble is you dont know who those women are until you have been falsely accused.
Of course there are real male predators out there. But there are also those who have been falsely accused and ruined.
Women lie which sucks for those that don’t.
Yep. Trust women, especially in a workplace, as far as you could spit them. Even after knowing them, tread very carefully. MGTOW is growing.

I witnessed this in the corporate workplace years ago. Men afraid of sexual harassment charges were happy to connect women only with female mentors. For your comfort, for your shared experiences.
Pols might be tempted to replace office hotties with men or old, ugly women. It would be the smart thing to do.
A certain baseball owner was quoted as saying he didn't hire any blacks because it was "impossible to fire them". It may be the same will be true with women.
If you can in any way avoid it never, EVER, employ a woman or a minority. Sure as the sun comes up each morning it will come back to haunt you. Speaking from experience.
I can see that as a huge result of this issue, compliments of “the law of unintended consequences”. If women’s libbers want to play this fragile flower game, they’ll have to deal with having a rough time finding work.
I have always felt there was a correlation between the birth of sexual harassment laws in the 1980s and the rise in strip clubs. In strip clubs, you can compliment a woman for her appearance without fear of reprisal as long as you have a wad of $20 bills. In a sense they were sexual harassment zones as long as you didn't try to take things too far.
Never be alone with a woman. And it’s better if the 3rd person is a woman you trust, like a wife or sister. It’s a decent rule of thumb and nothing new. It’s been wisdom for forever.
Yes, unfortunately the “safer” legal option seems to be believing the female accuser...
Certainly; on top of that, you have to pay them more than intended to keep lawyers and the government at bay.
Absolutely; here in my state of NJ it is easy enough to find someone else who can “check a box” to maintain minority quotas. Hispanic and Asian men, for instance...
