~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort or MCAS Beaufort is a United States Marine Corps air base located three miles 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) northwest of the central business district of Beaufort, a city in Beaufort County, South Carolina, United States. About 4,700 personnel serve at the station, and it is home to six Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet fighter-attack squadrons.
Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, home of the Marine Corps' Atlantic Coast fixed-wing, fighter-attack aircraft assets, is located in the heart of the South Carolina Lowcountry and is among the United States military's most important and most historically colorful installations. Fightertown's Hornet squadrons rotate overseas regularly, either for deployments to support Operation Inherent Resolve, for six month Western Pacific deployments or aboard Navy aircraft carriers. At any given time, up to half the squadrons may be found at various points around the globe, and are routinely called into action when the Commander in Chief requires airborne strikes or support for ground forces. Most recently, squadrons have seen combat in the skies over Iraq and Syria. Formerly home to USMC F-8 Crusader and F-4 Phantom II operations, MCAS Beaufort currently hosts all active duty USMC F/A-18 air operations on the East Coast, said aircraft and squadrons being assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 31 (MAG-31). The mission of MCAS Beaufort is to provide support as an operational base for MAG-31 and its associated squadrons. Learn More About MCAS Beaufort HERE!! “Ah, Beaufort. Loved it.”
Beautiful Beaufort By The Sea - 26 miles from Yemassee!
Indeed it’ll make you love the Low-Country! Only downside for me is neck pain from look’n up at every flyover.

Hiya radu!
I did absolutely, (almost), nothing today. I wasn't tired, there just weren't any pressing issues or errands to attend to today.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Weather has been chilly and cloudy, warming up a bit by the weekend.
Howz about you?

Howdy, Kathy.
Did getting some homework done last night make for an easier day at work?
I hope the glistening streets there are just wet and not icy. It got pretty warm there today.

My uncle (USMC) is buried there at the national cemetery. He was a demolitions man in the South Pacific campaign. On Guadalcanal for the heavy lifting. Took sufficient injuries that he was forced to muster out. He never got over the disappointment of leaving the Corps. A great guy, always a Marine.
RIP Robert J Hodges.

Stationed there during Cuban Missile Crisis. Our brand new, just off the line F8U-2NE planes came back beat to hell and back.
One of my sons is stationed there now.

Nice to have a day with no pressing issues or errands to run.
So you’ll have a warmer weekend too? They say we will but we just have to get through a few nippy days first. Tomorrow will be the coldest.
A large chunk of the afternoon was spent taking three of the lil girlies to the vet to see if he could help them feel better. They had a horrible weekend with a nasty tummy bug. Holli started eating a little this morning but she went with the other two any way. All got anti-nausea shots and sub-q fluids. Hope this helps them out.
Now sitting here getting Christmas cards ready to mail. It SHOULD have already been done. *sigh*

I was there in 1981 with H&MS-31. On, and that forgettable few months in 77-78 at PI.

P.I. was my dad’s last duty station, 64-65. Actually, it was a pretty cool place to be a 13 yo dependent.
