The most important domestic issue in our country is corruption. And for the first time in our modern history, we have the people and the institutions in place to fight it.
But at the very moment when anti-corruption officials have really started to tackle the problem, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is moving to undermine them. His followers in parliament have dismissed the head of a crucial anti-corruption committee, and now they’re preparing to neutralize the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), its only independent anti-graft body, which has made a name for itself with aggressive prosecutions of high-ranking politicians.

I Quite agree - Under Obama they broke the agreement we had with the Russians to stay out of neighboring countries - the result is renewed conflict with the Russians - costing us big time..
We are already bleeding over $1T / year in overseas adventures that have no end.
My take - unless they are a direct threat to USA trade - stay out of it - if we have to go in - we should not just defeat the enemy - but conquer - re-educate with an army of teachers - replace the culture - but if it isn’t worth it - stay out.
Let the Ukrainians sort it out.
As far as I'm concerned, the USA is no longer in the nation building business.

So? In the past Crimea belonged to Russia. Why is this our problem? The US has troops in just about every place in the world fighting for other countries. Time for the nation-building, world policeman crap to stop.
Crimea only went to Ukraine, because Khrushchev, wanting to make nice with the Ukrainians after being Stalin’s man in Ukraine, made the meaningless gesture of transferring Crimea from the Russian SSR to the Ukrainian SSR.

We should recall that the Russians signed an agreement with Ukraine for the use of a naval base until 2049....and that under that agreement...Russia was allowed up to 24,000 troops in Ukraine.
.... At the time of the illegal coup in Kiev they had roughly 16,000 troops stationed there. The Russians moved to insure that there military assets weren’t used against either them or the Crimean people.
Given the rampant corruption in the Ukraine...I can’t say I blame them... At this point the Crimean people were given a choice...take their chances with an ‘openly hostile’ gov. to Russians in Kiev...or return to Russia, which they had been a part of for more than 2 centuries.
Given that the vast majority of Crimeans are ethnic Russians...it’s no surprise that they chose the stability and familiarity and voted to return to Russia...... further we certainly know now that Ukraine/Kiev was the illegal coup d’etat started with the financial and logistical help of the US...
