The Queen (pictured walking with the ship's commanding officer, Captain Jerry Kyd) today said the huge vessel is a 'true flagship for the 21st century
The £3billion and 65,000-tone HMS Queen Elizabeth was photographed in Portsmouth on the day of her commissioning ceremony this morning

Very interesting she launched HMS Vanguard as well.
I just hope these new Carries are put to better use.
It was said here on Free Republic that we need more ships. Not better ones.
I worry that they should have built 4 smaller yet still very capable ships for the price of these two.
We are doing the same thing with Gerald Ford Class.

Is that Princess Ann behind the Queen? How did she become a naval officer?

I bet a single A-wing fighter could take out the bridge section.

It's still quiet a bit smaller than the 100,000 ton Gerald Ford class aircraft carriers...

Being a Queen is a full time job, the way Elizabeth does it.
Very impressive at 91 years of age, any age, actually.
It helps to be to the manner born, so that adhering to public perception becomes an easy reflex.

Nice looking ship!
I notice that there is no angled deck (British invention, IIRC). Makes sense if the A/C on board are Helos and F35Bs (vertical TO and landing).
Best wishes for safe voyages and successful missions.

No airplanes, two islands, and rocking Windows XP on all the onboard computers.
Good to see British engineering prowess is still up to standards.

"At a staggering 65,000 tons", gee compared to our 12 aircraft carriers at 100,000 tons I guess the British press don't get to use big numbers a lot.
"And with an operational range of 10,000 nautical miles" wow, so nobody over there has thought of using nuclear reactors?
Alas the twilight of the once might British Empire now reduced to playing with Lego blocks. Pray that the usa won't get to that but we got $20 trillion debt hanging over our heads and a lot of sin to repent for that can spell our demise.
