President Donald Trump is getting ready to do something big and risky in the Middle East – something no other president has dared to do.
So big, and so risky, that it could either spark a new Palestinian uprising, or lead to the long coveted but elusive peace pact that every president since Jimmy Carter has tried to broker.
According to published reports, Trump is planning to announce Wednesday the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Israel and move the American Embassy there from Tel Aviv within six months.
He reportedly has the backing of Saudi Arabia, home base of Islam’s prophet and most holy mosque, to make this move. That in itself, gives pause to some Christian leaders who would otherwise be jubilant about finally recognizing Israel’s right to Jerusalem.

And that’s not the only development rocking the region.
The New York Times and the Jerusalem Post have reported on a new Israeli-Palestinian peace deal that the Trump administration is said to be close to rolling out that would have backing from Saudi Arabia.
While details of the plan remain unknown, it would be a “two state solution” tilted toward Israel to the extent that “no Palestinian leader could ever accept it” and remain in power, according to the New York Times.

Trump’s fantastic speech in Riyadh put the world, especially the minor Islamic world, on notice that there was going to be great change.
That change comes from the conclusion by Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Oman and perhaps even Qatar, in association with Jordan and Egypt that the existential enemy is Iran and not Israel . Israel is in fact their ally. Although there has been clandestine contact with Israel for years, it can now be acknowledged.
The Palestinians are thereby determined to be irrelevant. Abbas will be faced with the task...... change, make peace and lose the constant threats to destroy Israel or find a new source of support.
Can someone explain why having the support of the Suudis in making this (long over due) change is a bad thing?
While concerns over Iran might be a factor, I suspect that they may be more concern over the monster they let loose on the world,terrorist.
If the terrorist are not eliminated they will at some point set out to destroy the House of Saud (and all the other nations in the Middle East) Perhaps the purge that has recently been made is the first step.
Does anyone believe this would occur if Hillary had been elected? No, I did not think so.

My guess is a few of them from Eastern Europe, like Poland and Hungary. Also, I think India might recognize and perhaps Japan and South Korea.
Of course Saudi Arabia supports it. They already possess the only two holy cities to Islam, Mecca and Medina. Every single Muslim knows that Jerusalem has no status whatsoever in their religion. It was a military conquest that they lost. Just like Spain.

Congress passed a law 20 years ago requiring the U.S. to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s undivided capital, but there is a clause in the law that allows the president to delay implementing it every six months.

News reports make it sound like Trump is off the reservation, going rogue with this ..... he is, in fact, following the law. Also, Alan Dershowitz said & emphasized (on Hannity) last night that what Trump is doing is the PERFECT response to Obama’s stabbing Israel in the back last year as he had one foot out the door at the WH .... abstaining from a condemnation resolution at the UN rather than vetoing.
The Shites, Sunnis, and whatever flavor of Muslim over there are always going to find something to fight about until Our Lord and Savior returns. Trump just needs to do it!
Several nations including Canada, have had their embassies in Jerusalem for years. We have had a consulate compound there for years. Amb. Bolton says all it takes is a good screwdriver and changing a few signs.

Uh, no. U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the CURRENT capital of Israel. Eternity has nothing to do with it.
Nobody has an embassy in Jerusalem. Not since 2006. Many, like the U.S., maintain a consulate there.

Abbas last month... told Abbas he has two months to either accept the Saudi proposal or leave office to make way for a new Palestinian leader who will accept it... proposes the establishment of limited Palestinian sovereignty over small portions of Judea and Samaria. The Gaza Strip, over which the Palestinians have had full sovereignty since Israel pulled its military forces and civilians out in 2005, would be expanded into the northern Sinai... they would be able to establish their capital in the Jerusalem suburb of Abu Dis.
