WASHINGTON — Representative John Conyers Jr., who faces allegations that he sexually harassed former employees, announced Tuesday that he will leave Congress immediately, and he endorsed his son, John Conyers III, to replace him.
Mr. Conyers, the longest-serving current member of the House and the longest-serving African-American in history, called into a local radio show on Tuesday to break the news.
“I am retiring today,” Mr. Conyers said from a hospital in Michigan. “I am in the process of putting together my retirement plans. I will have more on that soon.”
He continued to deny that he has harassed any of his former employees and said he did not know where the allegations came from.
“My legacy can’t be compromised or diminished in any way by what we are going through now,” Mr. Conyers said. “This too shall pass. My legacy will continue through my children.”

BTW, I said earlier they were looking at his brother's grandson to take his seat but I just heard Conyers endorsed his son. Kinda like taking over a mafia family when the Don dies.
Imagine, if you would, such a deposed Republican endorsing his like-minded son taking his place. Do you think the screams from the left wouldn’t be deafening?
And like all crooked Democrats Conyers sees the office he holds as a tangible asset that can be bequeath to HIS chosen successor Or used as a bargaining chip for a lesser sentence upon conviction. This is old politic pre-Trump politics. It will not stand this time around. His successor will be a White liberal probably a woman. Detroit just re-elected their White liberal male mayor 80/20 over Crooked Coleman Young’s son. They are woke as the liberal buzz word of the day goes and they aint going back to Detroit as it was.

What is the method for replacing a Fed Senator in Minnesota? Does Governor make replacement or does special election have to be held?
Governor appoints a replacement who would serve until 2018 election.
