Sea-level rise this century may threaten Jamestown in Virginia, the first permanent English settlement in the Americas; the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, which launches all of NASAs human spaceflight missions; and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in North Carolina, the tallest brick lighthouse in the United States, a new study finds.
These iconic locales are some of the more than 13,000 archaeological and historical sites on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts that rising sea levels will endanger this century, researchers in the new study said.
These rising sea levels could have severe effects, as more than 40 percent of all people worldwide live within 60 miles of the coast, many in low-lying areas, according to reports from the United Nations and others.
World Heritage sites, including Stonehenge and Statue of Liberty, threatened by climate change, UNESCO says.
This isnt the first time scientists have suggested that climate change could threaten important U.S. landmarks. In 2014, a study found that rising sea levels pose a risk to cultural landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty.

WaPo headquarters, perhaps?
One of these days, Mt Rushmore will be underwater.
Intereesting thought game.
Let’s play another one. What would happen if the seas receded. I mean, we can’t predict either (yet) so lets have twice the fun playing “what if?”.
No global climate change piece is without a qualifier of clever uncertainty which makes the entire thesis worthless.
Steven Tyler of Aerosmith wrote a song about this in 1973. Dream On.
How much will it rise again? And when?
How many times have we heard this? There should be beach front property at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains by now. Louisiana should be just an island.
Pure D liars.
They forgot to add that we will also run out of oil in 10 years.
I would buy real estate in Atlantis.
Get in on the ground floor and make some BENJAMINS!!!!

The new L.I.F.E.R. government grant funded swamp study?
It goes to show you what a prescient thinker Robert Byrd was, when he tried to have the Department of the Navy Headquarters moved to West Virginia!
There would be some interesting new landscape for sure. On the plus side, we could drive to Europe from the US. Florida would get a lot bigger. Oil exploration would certainly benefit from more access and shallow drilling. On the other hand, I suppose we should expect glaciers in Canada and into the northern USA. That might suck a little bit.
Plate tectonics will eventually obliterate the entire country.
STOP CONTINENTAL DRIFT!
Might. Could. May.
The language of the speculator.
Half of North America would be covered in ice. A far more likely outcome
Yes, and a comet will hit Earth and burn us all up, and all the trains, planes and cars are slowing down the Earth’s rotation, and the Earth will crash into the Moon, and the Sun will flare up and roast all the planets out to Saturn.
Only the last one is true.
Why are the liberal/socialist/progressive/communist/democrat cabal so worried about raising sea levels?
IMHO the answer can be found in the article - “ more than 40 percent of all people worldwide live within 60 miles of the coast, many in low-lying areas, according to reports from the United Nations and others.” How many of these people, in the US at least, are members of liberal/socialist/progressive/communist/democrat cabal?
Just a thought.
