I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI, Trump said. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!
The first part of that tweet is significant, noted Benjamin Wittes, who is editor in chief of Lawfare, because Trump for the first time suggested that he knew about Flynn's "legal jeopardy" in February, when Flynn was let go from the Trump administration for lying about his contacts with the Russians.
Furthermore, one day after Flynn's ouster, Trump pressed then-FBI Director Comey to drop the investigation into Flynn, according to testimony from Comey.
This could be significant as Mueller's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election reportedly is also looking at possible obstruction of justice by Trump.
During an interview with NBC News, Trump also said he considered "this Russia thing" before firing Comey in May.
"There are a number of issues Mueller would have to resolve if there is to be any obstruction of justice case. One of them and its not by any means the only one is state of mind on Trumps part," Wittes wrote on Twitter. ...

If they strike down Trump he will become more powerful than they can ever imagine.
If they try to impeach they Liberals will unleash a force so strong this world will be shaken to the core.
What a crock. And so Hillary has no trouble over lying to the friendly FBI investigator because she was not put under oath?
It is way past time for Mueller and his co-conspirators to be dealt with and this coup plot to be ended. If the Left pulls down Trump, American patriots must rise up.
The author’s main point is silly. If Trump already knew in February 2017 that Flynn had lied to the FBI, then surely the FBI already knew that, too. Firing Comey wouldn’t have changed a thing — and Trump has been quoted repeatedly saying exactly this.
Would they like some NotFries and an UnCola to go with that?
What I remember written about Trumps conversation about Flynn with Comey was that he hoped Comey would go easy on him he was a good guy. That was not a threat or order from Trump.
Trump is guilty by everything he says, everything he doesn’t say, everything he does, and everything he doesn’t do, according to the DFs of the Fake News Media.
Mods should add Barf Alert.
They knew then he didn't come clean with VP Pence, and now we can add to that and include the FBI, as just admitted by Flynn.
imho
Agreed.
How would Pres. Trump know Flynn lied to FBI ?
Fake News
Yeah, good luck with that.
It seems like what Trump eats for lunch raises obstruction of justice charges. So they’ve set a very low bar.
It’s just another good example of Trump derangement syndrome.
1) How does what Trump says about legal jeopardy now mean he knew the same thing 9 months ago?
2) Trump fired the guy, he says for lying, but no reason was required. The President can fire an appointee because it’s Monday. The FBI prosecuted him for the same lies. This is obstruction of justice?
3) To go after Trump, Mueller would have to show that Trump was actually obstructing justice I regard to a real crime. There isn’t one.
4) Comey himself wrote that the President can fire the FBI Director whenever he pleases. So Trump could have fired him for suspicion of obstructing the Hillary Clinton investigation and leaking; no proof is required. But this “Lawfare” (is that like warfare or welfare?) guy thinks a vague implication that Trump might have had obstruction on his mind overrides that? BS. Mueller prosecuted Flynn. Trump did nothing to prevent it, and merely asked Comey not to persecute Flynn the absolute zero Mueller’s case turned out to be.
These seditionist losers are getting quite tiresome. Hopefully, Righteous Justice will soon find them.
