Florida Senator Marco Rubio admits that the Republican tax cut plan to aid corporations and the wealthy will require cuts to Social Security and Medicare to pay for it.
Rubio told reporters this week that in order to address the federal deficit, which will grow by at least $1 trillion if the tax plan passes, Congress will need to cut entitlement programs such as Social Security. Advocates for the elderly and the poor have warned that entitlement programs would be on the chopping block, but this is the first time a prominent Republican has backed their claims.
We have to do two things. We have to generate economic growth which generates revenue, while reducing spending. That will mean instituting structural changes to Social Security and Medicare for the future, Rubio told a crowd at a Politico conference. Rubio's talk of structural change is vague, but will likely include changing the rate and age of Social Security and Medicare payouts.

Yes, what's really sickening is the 20 somethings that are sick of working minimum wage or slightly higher wages say, "We'll this sucks. I don't have enough money to even survive," and then they apply for disability of various types. This spiked during the Obama years. Needs a definite crackdown and limitation of eligibility. Like everything else, there's the real cases of need, the guy in a construction accident or some such but it's grossly abused.
Personally, I am several decades away from any retirement age, and accept that the government will not be giving me retirement cash.
I see despicable, wholly-owned Lil’ Rubio is at it again. He is McCain 2.0.
Wrong! It also could mean privatization of SS in some form.
Foreign isn’t even payments to voters !!!
End the ‘grants’ which are given out for BS ‘research’ crap, and save millions
The people with millions will find ways to hide/shield those assets if necessary. Eventually raising the age is probably a good idea. I’d raise the age a month every year for the next 26 years.
Then the VA disability system. I can't tell you of all the miraculous healing I've seen all because of a $3300 per month check.
Trump will veto any such attempts at political suicide.
These guys still haven’t learned that tax cuts lead to more revenue, not less!
Unless you have a catastrophic illness like terminal cancer or end stage kidney failure, they almost always reject the first request. Wish I’d known that when my father was denied many years ago after a heart attack that left him with a little over half a functioning heart. They had to use up quite a bit of their savings until he reach the age of 62, three years later.
Even Hillary proposed to cut all security by 25% starting in 2034. Social security is going to run out of money if they don’t.
How do they force him/her to enroll?
I had started SS at 62, and I was automatically enrolled when I hit 65. Card just shows up in the mail.
And, the health insurance I already had changed to being a medicare supplement instead of stand-alone insurance. They have you by the short & curly hairs.
Yeah, like my neighbor down the street that has a "bad back" and "PTSD" and is on disability, gets food stamps and an obama phone. But occasionally she'll ask me to give her a ride to her "off the books job" taking care of an elderly woman. Grr. She finally got the idea that I wasn't going to be her taxi cab when I always said that I'm not going in that direction.
They haven’t
Rubio is an a$$hole.
Thanks for the info!
What insurance did you have when you were 62?
I don’t know how you manage and it is comforting to know that your son has you.
I can’t imagine the weight on your shoulders, and I pray someone here or from a higher place is helping you carry it.
And giving your son comfort.
I believe what you say.
Having been on SSDI for 6 years before leaving it, I think what happens is people lose the skill that made them 60 to 80 thousand before, so 2000 or 2500 a month seems like a lot years later when they are better and looking at making the same or less in the workforce.
I was lucky to get a job making relatively the same as I did when I hot gotten injured.
Most, I guess, aren’t.
I get long winded lol!!!!
I am truly sorry that happened.
3 YEARS is quite a while to support one’s self with savings.
And yes, I did find that out later on.
But less than half a functioning heart? Geez. He should have been a first timer for goodness’ sake.
