Britain furious, Trump unapologetic as fallout swells from anti-Muslim videos

LONDON — The British revolt against President Trump swelled Thursday with Parliament members openly deriding him and Britain’s prime minister standing by her denunciations of Trump’s retweets of a fringe group’s anti-Muslim videos.

Prime Minister Theresa May blasted Trump for crossing a line by posting the inflammatory videos on his Twitter page Wednesday — and then warning May to essentially mind her own business and focus on Islamist terrorism instead of him.

But officials were careful to note that ties with the United States are stronger than the current flare-up with the White House.

“It’s increasingly clear that any official visit from President Trump to Britain would not be welcomed,” tweeted London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, the first Muslim to hold the office. Khan has repeatedly called for Britain to withdraw an invitation for Trump to visit — and his stance appeared to gain backing amid the outrage against the president.

In a sign of the disruptive wake unleashed by Trump, British Home Secretary Amber Rudd had to remind Parliament and the public that Britain’s relationship with the United States was bigger than one president — and that important trade, security and intelligence sharing are ongoing.

May’s approval rating has been sinking like a rock, and now stands at -33. Don’t imagine Trump was unaware of this.

I read a post by Brit yesterday. He said Trump’s tweets had made an earth-shaking difference, and everyone was talking about it. He said the Brits finally felt as if they could publicly acknowledged the savagery the Muslims are committing against them. He said the change was everywhere—at work, on the buses, in the shops. Finally people felt they could talk about it. He said Trump’s tweets brought them hope.

Trump makes fewer mistakes than some think. He generally knows what he’s doing.

If anybody follows ratings, it’s Trump. Of course he’s aware.

And the most insightful, natural political mind in my lifetime knows she’s dead meat walking.

And since he does not agree with Britain’s current course, stalling Brexit and remaining open to Islam, he decided to help May end her run.

This one was a no-brainer.

Well, yes. My issue with these anti-Muslim videos is not that they were tweeted by Trump. My issue is whether or not they are legitimate. There is some question about that.

The source for those videos was Britain First, a biased group. (There is nothing wrong with being biased! I’m biased towards conservatism. But biased sources need to be carefully checked out.)

If the videos are real, then May and her gang had better watch them a few times to get an idea of what’s in Britain’s future. But if they have been tampered with, then Trump has done himself no favors here.

I’ve seen no questions on whether they are accurate and factual. If you have a source that raises reasonable questions about factual accuracy, please send it my way.
