Republican Gov. Scott Walker has quietly signed a bill that allows Wisconsin farmers to grow industrial hemp.

Walker spokesman Tom Evenson said the governor signed the bill Thursday but his office didn't issue any news releases about it.

The bill passed the Legislature unanimously. The measure's sponsor, Republican Rep. Jesse Kremer, tweeted Thursday that the bill will make Wisconsin a leader in hemp production. His tweet included the hashtag "AmericasHempland."

Good. If there are uses for Industrail Hemp, then a state should be allowed to have its farmers grow and market it for all the various uses that are possible for the agricultural product.

Hemp is not the same as marijuana.

Hemp is not the same as marijuana.

Indeed. Industrial hemp is not marijuana.

Hemp is marijuana, just refers to a different part of the plant.

What do you mean “if.” Hemp has thousands of uses. I use lotion made of hemp seed. Henry Ford contemplated using it for the automobile. It is both stronger and lighter than steel.

No, "Both hemp and marijuana come from the same cannabis species, but are genetically distinct and are further distinguished by use, chemical makeup, and cultivation methods."

Why would anyone want to smoke hemp?

I stressed the “If” because the market will dicate how successful the crop is and how many farmers will decide to grow if. If the market decides that it has an abundant of uses then Wisonsin’s Hemp Production will go through the roof. If the market finds that its a yawner, then not so much grown.

I do not deny that hemp has any uses, but like any agriculutral product, the market will dictate its success. Frankly, I hope that industrial hemp takes off here in the states again. There really is no reason to forbid it except for the fact that it is closely related to the Devil Weed.

Not hemp, the real stuff. Up to 12 plants for a house with more than one adult.

I assume the powdered hemp I get from Canadian sources for smoothies is from the same plant. Thanks, Canada.
