Matt Lauer breaks silence: ‘I am truly sorry’
NY Post ^ | 11/30/2017 | Yaron Steinbuch

A day after being fired by NBC, former “Today” host Matt Lauer on Thursday broke his silence on the mounting sexual misconduct allegations against him — saying some of the accusations are “untrue” but that he is “truly sorry” for the pain he has inflicted.

“There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions,” he said in a statement. “To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry.

“As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC.”

...

“I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly,” he continued. “Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching and I’m committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full time job.

...

The entire statement was read aloud on Thursday’s “Today” show, where Savannah Guthrie was once again joined by Hoda Kotb, who also filled in for Lauer on Wednesday.

I can’t help but wonder if all of these recent sexual harassers weren’t influenced by the antics of a certain United States President who occupied the White House at the end of the last century.

After all, “it’s ONLY sex”!

Nah, Hopefully for him he invested at least some of his $25 mil/yr. Only thing he’s truly sorry about is gettin’ busted and no longer being a “star”.

He will be back sooner or later.

Indeed, there is a well-established path for people like Matt...

Sorry and apologize are two words that have lost all credence. They no longer carry any weight. They have become meaningless. Hollow, shallow, pathetic.

Liberal apologies are WORTHLESS!

The sex addiction clinics in this country should be just about full up by now. It seems to be the thing for many of these people to do.

“Mistakes were made...”

The guy was always a creep. He was the media’s Kevin
Spacey.

Maybe in more ways than one.

“All that damn money left on the contract is down the drain”

Perhaps not all of the money. There are reports he will receive a lucrative severance package:

http://www.townandcountrymag.com/society/money-and-power/a13975380/matt-lauer-settlement-nbc-payout/

One would think Lauer is being fired for cause and would not be entitled to severance. Apparently some members of the media world have entitlements not available to the average employee.

In July 1997 the divorced Lauer met Annette Roque, a Dutch model, on a blind date. Just five months later they were engaged, and on October 3, 1998, they married in Water Mill, New York. They have a son, Jack Matthew (born 2001), and a daughter, Romy (born 2004).

In September 2006, while pregnant with their third child, Roque filed for divorce, citing cruel and inhumane treatment from Lauer, as well as Lauer demonstrating extreme anger and hostility toward her, according to the documents. The couple later reconciled. Their son Thijs was born in November 2006.
