Schulz’ widow lost a lot of his original art in the recent Sonoma fires. Don’t know if that included animation cels.

Wow! This article is a bit skewed!

See the animators describe it themselves:

Here’s a story of the making of the Charlie Brown Christmas show, get this, some people involved thought that Linus reading from the sacred bible in a cartoon would be crass or disrespectful. Yes, you heard that right! People were actually worried about protecting the Christian religion. But the disagreement passed and it was great in the end.

Very interesting, I did not know the history of how Schulz had to fight for the Bible reading to be included. I still try to catch the show every year!

CBS network executives were certain they had a huge flop on their hands. CBS programmers were equally grim, informing the production team, "We will, of course, air it next week, but I'm afraid we won't be ordering more."

The half-hour special aired on Thursday, Dec. 9, 1965, pre-empting "The Munsters" and following "Gilligan's Island." To the surprise of the executives in New York, 50 percent of the televisions in the United States tuned into the first broadcast. The cartoon was a critical and commercial hit. It won an Emmy and a Peabody Award. Linus' recitation was hailed by critic Harriet Van Horne, of the New York World-Telegram, who wrote, "Linus' reading of the story of the Nativity was, quite simply, the dramatic highlight of the season."

“Always listen to experts. They'll tell you what can't be done, and why. Then do it.”

I grew up near Charles Schultz, and used to go ice-skating at the arena he built for his wife.

I won a contest once, in which the prize was a first edition book signed to me, from Charles Schultz. It is among my prize possessions.

I need to send a picture of that book to the Charles Schultz museum in Santa Rosa.

It appears to be tonight, Thursday 11/30, at 8pm on ABC.

We have FORGOTTEN how big a shift our society has gone through over the time from the creation of this "Charlie Brown Christmas"! The anti-Christian MSM of now is almost totally alien to the MSM culture of the 1960s. As evidence, here is a "Season's Greetings" CBS non-commercial from 1966! To imagine this being broadcast today would make any MSM scheduler's head explode! Yet, its broadcast did not send fanatical Christians out to destroy Jews or other faith practitioners. Today's world where Washington's public transit declined the local Roman Catholic Archdiocese's Christmas message, is a far different society than the one depicted from those days.

Hmmmm....I doubt too many “critics” would say that today.
