Donald Trump has been criticised for using a racial slur during an event honouring Native American veterans.
The US president was welcoming three Navajo code talkers from the Second World War to the Oval Office on Monday afternoon when he referred to Elizabeth Warren, the Democratic senator, as "Pocahontas".
During remarks praising their service, he said: "You were here long before any of us were here. Although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas. But you know what, I like you."
Two Second World War Navajo "code talkers" stood at the podium, with a third seated in a wheelchair as Mr Trump made the remarks, which were greeted with awkward silence.
They were among 29 young volunteers from the Navajo tribe who joined the Marines in 1942 and created a secret code for the military using the Navajo language as a code.
The president has repeatedly mocked the Massachusetts senator for claims she made about being part Native American.

Lib media crying tonight about Trumps RACIST EPITAPH!!!.
==
“Perhaps the Media should go through the formality of explaining precisely how the term is racist in any way, shape, or form”
—
Especially while Trump is still alive and well they should avoid talking about his epitaph.
Every time he uses the name people who aren’t that into politics asks why and he answer is , she said she was native so she could get into a school. Hat story will stick with her always. It works
You ask any Millennial and they will tell you quick that Sacagawea was the one who really opened up the Western United States rather than those two inept white boys, Lewis and Clark.
Pocahontas also has a near divine status in their eyes. And it was Harriet Tubman who freed the slaves.
You seem to think that the Navajo are a people without a sense of humor. Or a people who don’t understand the use of irony. They may not be much for laughing out loud, ha-ha, but I’m sure the Navajo from Cameron to Kayenta and throughout the Rez into the far reaches of New Mexico understood the point the President was trying to make.
Wrong they’ll ask why he calls her that hen they’ll hear the story she wishes will go away (it won’t because of Trump)
LOL... God bless our free speech President.
Last original WWII Navajo Code Talker, a Marine, dies

Fauxahontus took tha bait! She called our Prez “racist.” Now she is in for the ride of her life.
Pocahontas is not a slur. It originally, regarding Warren, was fauxahontas...for a while before Trum, actually. Trump just said pocahontas instead playing off of that.
The truth is that native Americans don’t like pretend Indians. The Cherokee joke about half the nation claiming cherokee blood. They’re really not interested unless you’re in a tribal registry.
What I really love about Trump - he doesn’t GAF.
I love the way Sarah stays on offense. She is masterful at it.
LOL
Pray tell, Lizzie, why is it racist to call a white woman Pocahontas?
Maybe he's saving that for after all the RATs freak out. He can use the opportunity to explain that she's a fake Indian, who used that big lie to steal an affirmative action education from a real Indian.
Then he can say; "I guess I'll have to change that to Fauxcahontas."
actually Pocahantas was from a completely different tribe, from a completely different part of the continent. I seriously doubt any offense was taken. Having the MSM lump all "indians" together in this story might be seen as offensive, however...
Because she dishonored and defrauded them?
Yeah, Howie Carr calls her Fauxcahontas. That's where the President got the idea.
Well, she’s not a Native American.
I’m guessing she is a Naive America, if she thought folks were going to sucker for her claims.
LOL. I worked for Winn-Dixie in the 60s and know exactly what you are talking about.
In fact, I made one not long ago to shock my Millennial nieces.
A Democrat was to blame for the Trail of Tears...when the Navajo lived in what was then still part of Mexico.
I believe it has been reported that one of Fauxcahontas' ancestors was an official who helped implement the Indian removal.
