After multiple groping allegations against Sen. Al Franken, the Minnesota Democrat says he knows he did wrong, but will not resign.
"I've learned from these stories that in some of these encounters I have crossed the line for some women, he told Minnesota Public Radio News.
"I'm going to do my job and I'm going to go forward," he added. "I'm going to take responsibility. I'm going to be held accountable and I'm going to try to be productive in the way I speak about this."
Franken hoped to be a better man after the experience and said Leeann Tweeden, the sports broadcaster who accused the senator of kissing and groping her without her consent, had every right to feel violated.
The photo of him holding his hands up against her breasts while she was asleep wearing a flak vest was inexcusable he said.
"I am ashamed of that photo," Franken said. "You know she didn't have any ability to consent. She had every right to feel violated by that photo."
As for other women who have come forward saying Franken touched them inappropriately while taking photos, the senator hes someone who, you know, hugs people.
"I've learned from these stories that in some of these encounters I have crossed the line for some women, he added.
But he couldn't say whether more women would come forward.
"This has been a shock to me."
He also said he does not have plans to step down.
"The Ethics Committee is looking into all of this and I will cooperate fully with it," he said. "I know I have a lot of work to do to regain the trust of people I've let down."
Plus, he says hes surprised. If he believed he did something wrong, why is he surprised?
Reminds me of the classic non apology, Im sorry you feel insulted.
In his writings he said his apology over the Playbiy article was a fake one. Why should we believe him now?
Id prefer him to stay and a slow roll of scandals pop up around him.
Democrats never resign.
Democrats never resign.
I do not know why we have prisons.
The Bank Robber can read a prepared statement, then go on with his life without penalty or repurcussions
It’s not a line Frankin, it’s an attitude. Women are people too and don’t exist for your self gratification. With such a psychological outlook on women, just how does he feel about all the “little people” whoput him in office hoping he would put their interests first.
He has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt he is unfit for public office. It’s not the sex, it’s the selfserving attitude.
However I am sure he will become very wealthy in office. All those taxes, and influence to sell too!
Or the old standby, "I'm sorry I got caught" [but not for what I did].
Or a variation on yours, "I'm sorry you are upset."
If people would look at Franken’s life, his entertainment career, life as celebrity, they would come to realize he has always been known for his vulgarity - nothing is new - Franken is a crude, vulgar personality. That’s who he is. And he and no one else can white-wash it away.
