IS SESSIONS TRUMP’S MOST EFFECTIVE CABINET MEMBER?
Powerline ^ | November 24,2017 | Paul Mirengoff

Many conservatives would scoff at the idea that Attorney Jeff Sessions is President Trump’s most effective cabinet member. They would cite his decision to recuse himself from the Russia investigation (probably the right call), his refusal to appoint a special counsel to investigate Hillary Clinton (probably the right call), and his failure to remember various obscure meetings with Russians, etc. (unfortunate).

But those who pay close attention to policy know that the Sessions Justice Department is advancing important conservative causes and undoing key liberal policies of the last administration. In fact, as the Washington Post puts it, he is reshaping the Justice Department.

The Post is dubious authority on many propositions, but it knows very well who is harming left-liberalism. It correctly perceives that Sessions has made “dramatic and controversial changes in policy since taking over the top law enforcement job in the United States nine months ago.”

Matt Zapotosky and Sari Horwitz provide this overview of Sessions’ key initiatives and accomplishments:

Sessions has implemented a new charging and sentencing policy that calls for prosecutors to pursue the most serious charges possible, even if that might mean minority defendants face stiff, mandatory minimum penalties. He has defended the president’s travel ban and tried to strip funding from cities with policies he considers too friendly toward undocumented immigrants.

Sessions has even adjusted the department’s legal stances in cases involving voting rights and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues. . . .

I don’t think the word “even” belongs in the second quoted paragraph. It’s telling that the authors put it there.

Too bad he doesn’t go after judges that make their own laws and refuse to obey those laws that already exist. Perhaps he should look into their “play books” to find what they use to support their actions/decisions.

Sessions has strengthened asset forfeiture policies.

That is effective, but in favor of tyranny not liberty.

The President has an outstanding Cabinet and he, being a good businessman, is letting them do their own thing with, in most cases,no micromanaging.IMO

People apparently wanted Trump to turn the Justice department into the vengeance department. But without the rule of law we have nothing especially considering the overarching power of the federal government. Sessions has made it clear he cares about the law above all.

Hillary and others committed clear crimes. Comey even spelled then out. Running for office doesn’t exonerate you from prosecution.
There was complete illegal use if government to attack political opponents. Feckless Sessions is fine with that.

One annoying thing about sessions id that he sounds like an idiot when he speaks. He sounds like a 2nd grader sounding out words. He even sounds more stupid than Bush.

Is this satire? Sessions is among Trump’s worst choices, the other being to involve his daughter and son-in-law. At least we can excuse them for being family. But not Sessions. The only saving grace is that he is so old and infirm that he mostly sleeps.

After reading literally thousands of Hillary's emails in 2015 I saw a lot of rules and laws being broken by her underlings. Even Comey didn't tag her with that, he said "there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information." Basically her underlings broke the law on leaking classified so she wouldn't have to. Comey gave them all immunity.

The use of national security to go after political opponents is the very thing we are trying to stop. That happened with using the dossier to support wiretapping the Trump campaign. Hillary's clean on this as usual because all she did was allow her campaign to write a check to the law firm. Someone else signed it.

I doubt Sessions is fine with that. Whether he balls enough to go after that is open and being answered in the negative as time goes on. That could still change. But do you think even someone like Giuliani would be going after Clapper and the others who broke laws and lied about it? I really doubt it.

Sessions failed on the most important thing he could have done as AJ. Indite or set up a Special Counsel on Hillary and shut down the current Mueller Counsel. Without that America may never recover. President Trump will be the big looser.

Agreed. Sessions is systematically restructuring the DOJ in order to return to the Rule of Law and equal treatment under the law. IMO there are ongoing investigations into the Clinton Foundation, the unmasking of US citizens, etc. that Sessions cannot confirm or deny. Such investigations take time. People seem to forget that Sessions has only been in office about 10 months and he didn't get his deputy confirmed until late April.

If Trump wanted Sessions gone, he would have been fired a long time ago. Sessions offered his resignation and Trump wisely rejected it. I can understand Trump's frustration. The appointment of a Special Counsel was a huge mistake and now we know it was based on a phony Dem Ops Research document.

To be honest, no one but Trump and Sessions “know” and maybe his cabinet picks know and very few others. Who is Bestsy DeVos’ brother? Who was the main owner of Mandaley? Who was tortured upside down? Google CIA connection? Who killed JFK?

Te drain this evil, vile swamp, without being killed and destroyed like JFK or having your children and families exterminated, will take stealth and hidden acts and 4-D Chess. Just as these evil communists spent DECADES infiltrating this country IN SECRET and taking over ALL our institutions to destroy this Republic, it will take awhile, maybe a few years to restore this Republic-—or it is going to collapse. No one knows the future but we can pray and hope and promote the Truth in the meantime.. Trump seems to not be owned by the Deep State, but only God and Trump know that. A hidden coup is taking place as I type and, hopefully, the good guys win and take control again.

I think the persistence of the defense lawyers and eventually the insistence of Judge Gloria Navarro on release forced the hand of Mr. Myhre who continues to fight the defense tooth and nail as aggressive as ever.
