WASHINGTON – Sen. Al Franken plans to stay in the U.S. Senate and try to win back Minnesotans’ trust.

The Minnesota Democrat, who has been accused by four women — two of them anonymously — of inappropriate contact, issued a Thanksgiving afternoon apology and pledge. He wrote that he “feels terribly that I’ve made some women feel badly.” He called himself “a warm person” who likes to hug people when they’re being photographed with him, but clearly, his embrace “crossed a line for some women.”

I don’t think there’s any evidence that the voters of Minnesota have any sort of problem with Al Franken.

How many opinion polls have been done of Minnesota’s feelings about Franken?

How many have been done of Alabama’s feelings about Judge Moore?

There was never any serious risk of resigning for essentially posing for some gag photos and hitting on a few women.

Winning back Minnesotans’ trust will be easier than fondling a sleeping woman. After all, he’s good enough, smart enough, and gosh darn it, people there like him.

Can a leopard change it’s spots? Not without the Lord’s help. Kind of doubt he’s gotten desperate enough to go there.

When a politician says “gain the trust” what he/she really means is “pull one over on.”

"Sure, you can trust me."

"You look tired. Why don't you take a little nap?"

How can you regain trust in a man whole stole his elections?

Apparently it's possible since he won re-election by 10 points. He's got two years for this to blow over.

If Senator Franken is, eventually, replaced, through an appointment by Minnesota’s D governor, Mark Dayton, then the replacement will, probably, be Keith Ellison. Is it better to keep Senator Franken, or to replace him with Keith Ellison, who may end up being, even, worse than Senator Franken, on most to all issues? Or, are they the same, on most to all of the issues?

He will easily regain their trust by promising to steal even more of other folk’s money. Same way he got their vote, er, trust in the first place.

He can regain trust by accepting responsibility and quitting the senate.

Minnesota voted for Al Franken because the voters there decided they'd rather have a gross comedian as US Senator than a typical politician. I get that. The argument that a close vote might've been stolen doesn't change that fact; if it weren't close he wouldn't be Senator. The second time, he won because he was at least as good a Senator as typical politicians are.

Minnesota's voters knew what they were getting. It's up to them to decide, next election. It's the same as in Alabama....the voters, not outside manipulated forces, should decide what issues matter.

In my mind, the real issue is those DC Swampthings who had federal hush money or money from other illegal sources paid to quiet their misdeeds. They are the ones who should go. So should anyone who enabled this practice.
