A trio of labor economists suggest that effort at work is correlated with race
As The Economist writes, given the long history of making racial slurs about the efforts of some workers, any study casting black and Hispanic men as lazier than whites and Asians is sure to court controversy.
But, a provocative working paper by economists Daniel Hamermesh, Katie Genadek and Michael Burda sticks a tentative toe into these murky waters.
They suggest that Americas well-documented racial wage gap is overstated by 10% because minorities, especially men, spend larger portions of their workdays not actually working.
Uncomfortable though the topic may be, the authors have attempted a rigorous analysis.
The studys method is straightforward. The data come from nearly 36,000 daily diaries, self-reporting on how Americans spent their working hours, collected from 2003 to 2012.
Relying on the assumption that workers are equally honest in admitting sloth, the authors calculate the fraction of time spent not working while on the job spent relaxing or eating, say and find that it varies by race to a small but statistically significant degree.
The gap remains, albeit in weaker form, even with the addition of extensive controls for geography, industry and union status, among others. Non-white male workers spend an additional 1.1% of the day not working while on the job, or an extra five minutes per day.
Assuming their controls are adequate, that would still leave 90% of the wage difference between white workers and ethnic minorities, which was recently estimated to be 14%, unexplained.

I believe that it was an article I read by Thomas Sowell who flat-out stated (but I’m paraphrasing, since it’s been many years,) that in the 1950s, into the 1960s, the “Black Middle Class” was growing, but it was Johnson’s “war on poverty” that put into place government policies that discouraged work, and made having a father in Black homes redundant, since the government could be “the daddy.”

The portion of sapiens sapiens' brains that is responsible for cognitive functions weighs around 1.5 pounds. Even if this organ has multi-quadrillion neural network connections, it is still a definable, largely finite number.
Quantum computing will provide the ability to allow advanced testing, evaluation, modeling and simulation of different brain functions. Combined with genetic research and DNA modification, it should be possible - perhaps within generations - to enhance, detract or otherwise form IQ to levels sufficient to perform within objective parameters.
The holy grail of course is singularity, but in order for that occur, the steps outlined above will become trivial and commonplace. When/if it happens, it could provide the greatest social advancement to date. Imagine, individuals/groups who exhibit classic dysfunctional attributes undergoing gene therapy and emerging as 'normal', functioning members of society.

"Judge people as individuals"? Eeew, that's so conservative. We should be more like the intensely race-conscious progressive people who discuss privilege while knitting hats that supposedly resemble female body parts.
When segregation went away, American blacks basically split. One part adopted the "success culture" (get educated, get married, stay married, work hard and succeed). And they did.
Another part decided that the "success culture" was "acting white", and developed what is now "American black culture" which decided "white culture owes me for what my ancestors suffered" and chose to act exactly opposite to the "success culture".
Of course the "success culture" is not just a "white thang", as demonstrated by immigrants to the US from every race.
Our public schools are so focused on “equity” and “diversity” that they have entirely lost sight of the traditional cultural values that if embraced would resolve the social concerns equity and diversity are supposed to attend.
So instead of creating a workforce that is conscientious and dedicated to quality work, we’re pumping out self-absorbed brats who think that life is unfair.
I think that's the wrong definition of "work". I think a better definition of "work" would be time actually engaged in carrying out the business of your business. Your pharmaceutical rep might spend most of her day driving from one doctor's office to the next, and the rest of her time flashing her boobs and nattering about the supposed benefits of her company's product. Not sure it's mentally or physically taxing, but it's definitely "work". It's what she's being paid to do.

Yup. A few years back, I read that immigrant Blacks (mostly Caribbean Islands) had/have a higher income than the average White in New York city.
In another case I saw one Black guy exclaiming(in a Caribbean accent), "What a great country, all you have to do is work hard to become rich."
Correct. And that is exactly what my post is saying...that despite the fact that the overall group IQ value of "blacks" may be a few points lower than that of the overall group IQ value of "whites", the nature of statistics says that there are always individuals that are higher or lower of IQ than the group average. Sooo....a "black" with an IQ of 130 has better performance potential than a "white" with an IQ of 100.
IQ testing has a proven track record of decades. The correlation and reliability are as established as using a meter stick to measure height.
Not doubting that at all. The spatial facility test apparently provides an even better correlation than IQ and has the serious advantages that it can be administered much earlier in a child's life and is independent of language, so the arguments over ebonics or non-native speakers are eliminated.

The only blacks I ever hired that didn’t try to fake an on the job injury, weren’t shysters of some sort, or who gave less that a full day’s work were either African or had African parents. Afro-Americans are low performing opportunists.
The fact that blacks were self-reporting with ‘work diaries’ tells me tho problem is at least double what the data show.
