White-on-White Voting (It's a dangerous course)
NY Times ^ | NOV. 16, 2017 | Thomas B. Edsall

Dravosburg, Pa. is a small — population 1,746 — working-class suburb that lies along the Monongahela River 10 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. If we want to understand what actually propelled Donald Trump to victory last November, presidential voting patterns there provide a vital clue.

In 2012, Dravosburg backed Barack Obama over Mitt Romney 441 to 312, or 53.4 percent to 44.8 percent.

Four years later, the men and women of Dravosburg abandoned their Democratic loyalties and backed Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton, 56.3 to 41.1.

What is so interesting about this working-class community, with its strong ties to organized labor? It is one of thousands of white enclaves across the nation that provided Trump with his margin of victory.

The election of Donald Trump revealed that in some of the nation’s whitest municipalities and counties — the communities arguably most insulated from urban crime, immigration and gangs — Trump did far better than Romney had done four years earlier.

The 2016 results suggest that residents of a diminishing number of decisively white American towns and small cities — even those which supported Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 — can now be politically mobilized around race, ethnicity, multiculturalism and immigration.

None of the nation’s whitest municipalities and counties — especially those in the Trump-voting Midwest — is immune.

Where are the overwhelmingly white localities experiencing the most rapid rate of minority population growth, although the absolute numbers themselves are small? They are in the part of the nation’s heartland — Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania — where Trump earned enough Electoral College support to win the presidency even as he lost the popular vote.

In some respects, the data gathered by Orfield’s team is good news for Democrats. The core of Trump’s support lies in counties and municipalities like Dravosburg and Elk County, many of which are losing population. They are, in effect, the last gasp of white hegemony.

Still, immense damage has been done.

In conclusion: When I look back at the 2016 election, what is really striking is how much influence over the course of events was exercised by the relatively small numbers of voters in super-white municipalities and counties and by the politician who ignited them — how the last gasp of a small fraction of the electorate set the nation on such a dangerous and destructive course.

More and more the liberals are revealing their true agenda as reducing the white majority to the status of a hated and powerless minority. This is the unstated purpose of the push for open borders.

Trump did better than Romney because people hated the GOPe almost as much, or more, than they hated the Democrat establishment. Romney was the poster boy for the GOPe.

The politician who ignited white people to vote for Trump was the one who called them a basket of deplorables. I can’t tell you how tired I am of the race card.

Dravosburg abandoned their Democratic loyalties

Writer has this backwards. Who abandoned whom?

Yes, and notice how there is never a mention of the black and hispanic enclaves around the country and how they vote? It’s always the white voter who is racist because they didn’t vote for a person of color.

This cancer is growing. The cancer of this degenerate thought that seeks to turn people into self haters for what they know to be true in their hearts. The left has no heart - no soul. They know only hatred and loathing for those who will not kneel at their feet.

Look at the “uneducated whites” stereotype - then consider the ‘hoodrats who voted Dem for 50 years. NOBODY is less educated than that demographic.

“The left has no heart - no soul. They know only hatred and loathing for those who will not kneel at their feet.”

Those who kneel at their feet are not safe either. In movie after movie a low level minion of evil works hard to bring the main evil being to power. Then, he expects something in return, loyalty, fame, riches...whatever. Instead the main evil kills the minion without a second thought. That works in film because we see that in real life. Some Democrat is a loyal minion, but gets thrown under the bus at the first inconvenience. For every minion who goes on to be president of a college there are three who go to prison or end up accidentally killing themselves while cleaning their gun or accidently strangling to death under their exercise machine’s weight bar.

I think if we could make the actual facts of the Clinton crime family into a movie, it would make the “The Godfather” look pedestrian.

More tired old race and identity politics to divide the nation and rule.

The NYTs has been pushing this narrative for decades.

They’re implying it is due to white racism, yet those same places voted for Obama.

Where they racist then?

Romney was the poster boy for the GOPe.

I won't argue with that, except to offer that Romney didn't have the killer instinct, and Trump did. Voters hadn't seen that in a Republican Presidential candidate, even the ones who won, in thirty years.

I’d add that Thomas Edsall is one of the NYT’s most execrable columnists.

Right up there with Frank Rich.

They are, in effect, the last gasp of white hegemony.

He's whistling past the graveyard, and it ain't the graveyard that's filling up with old white men. It's the one filling up with pages from the ancient Democrat playbook.

Places that supported President Obama over Mitt Romney in the 2012 election switched their support to Trump — some with hefty margins. As the data came in last night, we saw a clear trend: In almost every county across the nation, Trump's support was stronger than Romney's four years ago. On the Democrats side, another trend emerged: a lot of counties that voted for Obama in 2012 still voted for Hillary Clinton this time, but with worse margins.

There’s a lot of nonsense coming from the pen of another self-described elitist. In the election the writer speaks about, we had the choice between a WHITE guy and a BLACK WHITE woman. Only in the intellectual wasteland of leftist brain can favoring one white politician over another white politician be considered a racist act.

“the last gasp of a small fraction of the electorate”

Zero didn’t win with the black vote alone. White people went big for obama there, consistent with the rest of the country!

So now they’re saying H-> lost because all the obama folks moved out of the district and other districts like it?

No, their ‘last gasp’ looks more like the waking up of the electorate after the obama FAIL.

It is okay to play identity politics as long as whites don’t develop an identity. Blacks can vote over 90% for the Dems and Hispanics 65% and that is not dangerous.

In 1970 non-Hispanic whites were 89% of the population and the number of foreign-born was 9.7 million. Today, 63% of the population is non-Hispanic white and there are 43 million foreign-born.

The US brings in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants a year, 87% of whom are minorities as classified by the USG. By 2043 non-Hispanic whites will be 50% of the population and 43% by 2060. We entered the era of tribal politics under LBJ.
