The Army's top officer said Wednesday that the service had "rescinded" a controversial memo permitting people with a history of severe mental illness to seek waivers allowing them to join up.
Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley told reporters the memo was "unauthorized" and its author did not have the authority to change the Army's recruitment policy.
"It was rescinded last night," Milley said of the memo, which was dated Sept. 7 of this year and initially reported by USA Today on Sunday.

Unauthorized memo.
Somebody in the upper echelons of our military issued an illegal order.
Not only an illegal order but one which would’ve been highly damaging to the military.
That, again, is treason.

Who gave the waiver to the nimrod who came up with that plan?

Sometimes when somebody reads back to you, your hair-brained scheme, the folly is glaring.

LOL That was my thought, too. He nipped that nonsense in the bud.
I expect that the memo announcing mentally ill soldiers was real enough: they just can't get enough volunteers.
I wonder what would happen if 1. our government decided to actually search out the best men they could find and make a military career really attractive or 2. See if there wouldn't be some glimmer of patriotism sitting latent out there that they could appeal to so that we'd get more quality people. Our leaders don't seem to understand that to have world-beating armed forces, we need bright, energetic people to prepare for and fight wars. We can't just keeping burning out the few volunteers we have now with back-to-back deployments.
Stupid/defective/weak/divisive/sick people only make the enemy's job easier.
Unless they are fags wanting to chop their junk off at taxpayer expense. In that case the welcome mat is still out.
The military always has always had a harder time finding recruits when the economy is humming along.
I think Gen. Milley got his heels locked by Sec. Of Defense Mattis and quickly made the announcement.
I hope so, it’s past time we had a SECDEF that’ll shut this type BS.
Woildn’t mental illness and depression prohibit you from owning a gun?
The Army seems to be having uniquely bad retention problems right now that the other branches aren't dealing with.
