American nabbed while trying to enter N. Korea

2017/11/13 15:36

UIJEONGBU, South Korea, Nov. 13 (Yonhap) -- A U.S. citizen was arrested by South Korean police Monday for crossing the Civilian Control Line (CCL) near the inter-Korean border without a permit in an alleged attempt to enter North Korea, authorities concerned said.

The CCL was drawn just below the Demilitarized Zone bisecting the two Koreas from the west to the east in 1954 to strictly protect the security of military facilities and operations there.

The 58-year-old American, only identified as "A," was seized at 9:55 a.m. as he trespassed on the northern side of the control line in the border county of Yeoncheon, 62km north of Seoul, according to the authorities.

A villager in the county's Baekhak Ward found and reported him to the Army in the region about one hour before his arrest.

He was captured in the nearby Misan Ward. The areas are both under the control of the Army's 28th Infantry Division.

Hailing from Louisiana, the American reportedly came to the South three days ago and violated the line to enter the communist North for political purposes.

A joint probe by the police, Army and National Intelligence Service is currently underway.

FYI - based on a quick web search, Louisiana ranks last in education according to various sites. Which may give this guys SOME excuse for wanting to sneak INTO North Korea.

Although I guess I didn’t learn geography well enough - I didn’t realize that, according to the headline, one can enter North Korea from Louisiana!

He’d have had one hell of an education on what Socialism actually is from the Norks. I’ve read up on what happened to the defectors that went there before him.

Fortunately for this guy, he was caught in South Korea, and is in the hands of the US military.

He is still not having a good day, but it could have been much, much worse.

Either way, he must be a real pro. Trying to “sneak” into NK in mid-morning, in broad daylight. Some folks in Loozianner, where he is reportedly from, would call that, “stupidity gone-to-seed”.

Man, geography has certainly changed under Common Core. When did North Korea get a border with Louisiana?

Nobody ever tells me anything ...!

“Louisiana ranks last in education according to various site”

I am from Louisiana and I think something is lacking in your education that would impel you to immediately do such a search. He may have lived here for five months.

Just one person out of a state represents the whole state? We have a large non-white population that does not value education. But I would bet this guy is white.

The generation that won World War II had an average 8th grade education.

Perhaps Amos Moses heard there were alligators in North Korea.

Now Amos Moses was a Cajun
He lived by himself in the swamp
He hunted alligator for a living
He'd just knock them in the head with a stump
