Turns out the Chinese are intrigued and entranced with the Donald himself....

I remember the "Obama Fried Chicken" restaurant that popped up in China shortly after Hussein was inaugurated. The cartoonish image on the sign wasn't loaded with respect. IIRC, the place stayed open under that name until KFC raised hell about the "borrowing" of their trademarked logo.

President Trump went over the diplomats heads directly to the Chinese people. He represented him self as a real person, an elder to be respected. An elder with a real family that can magnify the respect.

The reality of the Trump persona has multiple dimensions that attract respect. To receive the familiar appellation of uncle is the height of endearment and respect.

The military on Oki had a STRONG habit of controlling the news. Back in '72, a lance-whoopie in 4th Marines had an argument with the barracks shoe shine honcho, and emptied a full mag into him, blowing the local all over the walls and floor of the head.

This was right after the change-over from US control to Japanese control of the island. The word was passed that the kid was promptly smuggled to Kadena and flown to Clark AFB, in the Philippines, to keep him out of Japanese jurisdiction. He would then be Court Martial, and sent to Leavenworth. That's the story everyone heard and passed along.

Twenty years later, I heard from someone who had been in Navy JAG who was actually familiar with the case that the kid had been handed over to the Japanese, and sentenced to twenty years, eating fish heads and rice, in a concrete box...

On Okinawa the only English language news access was AFRTS.
