The Senate campaign arm of the Republican Party on Friday severed ties with Roy Moore, one day after the Washington Post reported that Moore had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl and pursued inappropriate relationships with several other teenagers while he was a district attorney in his 30s.
As the Daily Beast first reported, a joint fundraising committee supporting Moores election bid and the Republican Party filed paperwork Friday morning dropping the National Republican Senatorial Committee from its list of beneficiaries. The Alabama Republican Party and the Republican National Committee remain linked to the campaign.
Moore has strongly denied the allegations, calling them a the very definition of fake news and intentional defamation.
After supporting incumbent Luther Strange in the Sept. 26 special primary, the NRSC initially threw its weight behind Moore in the general election against Democrat Doug Jones.
Our focus is always on keeping a strong Republican majority in the Senate, and that includes Alabama, NRSC chairman Cory Gardner said in a statement at the time. Roy Moore will be imperative to passing a conservative agenda, and we support him in keeping this seat in Republican hands.
But Gardner changed his tune after the allegations against Moore became public, saying he should drop out of the election if they proved true. The committees decision to sever ties indicates theyve heard enough to withdraw their support.
Alabama Republicans, meanwhile, have closed ranks around their candidate, with many claiming the allegations were a Democratic conspiracy, others diminishing their significance, and some even saying theyd still support Moore even if the allegations of sexual abuse were true.
I would vote for Judge Moore because I wouldnt want to vote for Doug, Bibb County chairman Jerry Pow told Daniel Dale of the Toronto Star. Im not saying I support what he did.
Moore is on Hannity radio show now. After listening to him, I will be shocked if he is the Senator come oath day.

Why?
I was paraphrasing. He got better the longer the interview went on. I think it was taped/not live interview?
Huh?
He implied some could have been true, which media will use to say aLL is true... He denied the assault against the 14 yr old, but was iffy on the other ones (which were not illegal).
He didn't exactly dispute it. He said it wasn't his "customary behavior" to "date" teenagers.
McConnell needs to resign. He is reprehensible.
IDC if he dated teen girls tbh when he was younger and unmarried, as long as he never attacked someone.
Sexual assault is a serious matter, but coming onto someone or dating them is legal.
You have to remember he was young and unmarried this was almost 40 years ago NOT last year.
McConnell is a vile swamp pig
He wasn't that young. He was a practicing lawyer in his 30s.
WTF? Are they for real?? After it was found out his accuser works for the Democrats? Holy God I have SO had it with this party.
32 is young. And here something you might not like to hear but many young men like to date young females. And many girls by the age of 15/16 even 40 years ago are not virgins, they like having sex, and like to go out with older men.
As long as their age of consent and not being forced to perform sexual acts, why do you care? This was 40 years ago and the only thing he admits to is dating a couple of teen girls who were over the age of consent and willingly dated him.
I DON”T CARE!!!!!!!!
If you can prove he broke a law or was cheating on his wife then get back to me.
Trick statement. I don’t think they were donating any money to Moore since the primary.
Still, lets go and donate to Moore!
And you must not be a parent, because no normal parent would allow a 32 year old man anywhere near their middle school or high school daughters. In my county, that's considered a justifiable homicide.
I dont remember going out on dates. I knew her as a friend. If we did go out on dates, then we did. But I dont remember that.
A Kevin Spacey like if I did it...
Guilty until proven innocent. Right? After all, it’s not relevant whether it’s true or not; it’s the seriousness of the accusation that really matters.
“Im just about to pull my support ffrom the Republican Party period.”
To quote NEWman, “What took you so long?”
Good grief. It’s been a decade since most people I know stopped supporting the GOP. They’ve even stopped calling to avoid verbal abuse from this end.
Defending the fact at 32 as an unmarried man he went on dates with 16 year olds? Yea, because in Alabama that was legal.
Age of consent laws say it was okay at the time, and do we know they had sex? I’m saying that 40 years ago unless you can show me there was assault or a law broken I do not care if a man dated a 16 year old.
Was he stalking them, threatening them, or harassing them? We’re talking about people willingly dating each other. Again, if he broke a law and it can be proved that he broke a law, get back to me.
We haven’t heard anything about him being a sexual deviant and usually guys who assault or harass females don’t magically stop, so where is all the people in the last 40 years or do you thunk Moore just had a very bad year in 1979??
this is all made up political bullshit because they all knew Moore’s past consenting relationships around that time (1979) were with teen girls so they used that as a springboard into these accusations.
B-b-but if you dont vote gop, the terrorists win!
.... or something like that.
Politics is a scam and were suckers for playing.
Yea except Kevin Spacey made UNWANTED moves on young boys or tried molesting them.
Look at all the FReepers getting ready to join the deep state in throwing Moore over board for dating a couple teen girls 40 years ago in Alabama which was completely LEGAL.
Show me he hurt someone physically or assaulted them, then we’ll talk.
