National Republican Senatorial Committee Withdraws Support of Roy Moore
The Weekly Standard ^ | 11/10/2017 | ANDREW EGGER

Posted on 11/10/2017 12:25:15 PM PST by Kevin C

The Senate campaign arm of the Republican Party on Friday severed ties with Roy Moore, one day after the Washington Post reported that Moore had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl and pursued inappropriate relationships with several other teenagers while he was a district attorney in his 30s.

As the Daily Beast first reported, a joint fundraising committee supporting Moore’s election bid and the Republican Party filed paperwork Friday morning dropping the National Republican Senatorial Committee from its list of beneficiaries. The Alabama Republican Party and the Republican National Committee remain linked to the campaign.

Moore has strongly denied the allegations, calling them a “the very definition of fake news and intentional defamation.”

After supporting incumbent Luther Strange in the Sept. 26 special primary, the NRSC initially threw its weight behind Moore in the general election against Democrat Doug Jones.

“Our focus is always on keeping a strong Republican majority in the Senate, and that includes Alabama,” NRSC chairman Cory Gardner said in a statement at the time. “Roy Moore will be imperative to passing a conservative agenda, and we support him in keeping this seat in Republican hands.”

But Gardner changed his tune after the allegations against Moore became public, saying he should drop out of the election if they proved true. The committee’s decision to sever ties indicates they’ve heard enough to withdraw their support.

Alabama Republicans, meanwhile, have closed ranks around their candidate, with many claiming the allegations were a Democratic conspiracy, others diminishing their significance, and some even saying they’d still support Moore even if the allegations of sexual abuse were true.

“I would vote for Judge Moore because I wouldn’t want to vote for Doug,” Bibb County chairman Jerry Pow told Daniel Dale of the Toronto Star. “I’m not saying I support what he did.”

In my opinion, this reeks of a complete setup by the establishment...

They want no one who is not on the inside with them, even if it means losing the Senate, which they haven’t even used for our benefit anyway....

After listening to him, I will be shocked if he is the Senator come oath day.

Why? What’s he saying?

I wouldn't disagree but between now and when the proof comes in, an election will be held. If Judge Moore knows he is innocent of the charges, he should stay in the election and fight to the end. Actually, even if he knows that the charges are valid, Judge Moore should stay in the race and try to win the election so that the seat doesn't fall into Democrat hands. He can gracefully resign later.

The committee’s decision to sever ties indicates they’ve heard enough to withdraw their support.

Perhaps. More likely IMO is that they are cowards who are running for cover rather than fight for their candidate. I'm guessing that they would have done so for Strange.

This is why I won’t give the Republican national committee a dime for donations.

That he only dated “girls” with their parental permission, does not remember dating at least one of them... He would be torn apart if he does a press conference or gets interviewed by a MSM reporter.

It's all in keeping with the American legal maxim about "guilty until proven innocent."

Even if Moore wins the election, McConnell can refuse to let him take the seat (as long as he can round up enough other senators to play along, which should not be difficult).

Trump needs to take over the RNC as a President often does.

They didn’t want Moore to begin with.

I’m sure they were looking for a way to distance themselves from him.

They still haven’t got one clue where the party is headed despite them.

Boy are they in for a tough seven more years. This is going to hurt like hell, watching the nation return to it’s founding principles, at least closer than it has been in a long long time.

For anyone who doubts this wasn’t a concocted setup, the fact McConnell and the other swamp things shouting from the rooftop within an hour of the WaPo story “STEPDOWN” before Moore even had a chance to responds tells you everything.

A young man (yes he was 30/32) but still young, unmarried coming onto teen girls might be gross to some but perfectly legal especially in AL at the time when the age of consent was 12.

I don’t see any proof that he even came onto them let alone assaulted anyone. Where is the crime here?
He wasn’t even married at the time.

Guilty of what even if they were true? I mean, I don’t think they are but what is the crime exactly?
