WASHINGTON Illinois Democratic Rep. Danny Davis says he sees nothing wrong with the California ACLUs effort to ban the Star Spangled Banner as the countrys national anthem.
Well, you know, one of the things about the Constitution that our forefathers wrote, and basically, there were none of our foremothers that were there. There were none of our fore-sisters there. There are changes that can take place and there is room to change, he told TheDC Thursday.
Alice Huffman, president of the California chapter of the NAACP, declared the anthem to be racist and that it doesnt represent our community. Its anti-black people, SFGate.com, reported Wednesday. The NAACP is hoping for lawmakers to change it.
Davis, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus went on to say, Intellectually, if people continue to pursue this nation to become perfected, then I see nothing wrong with that. I mean it was designed, I think they said, to form a more perfect union.
He added, They didnt say that it was perfect at the time, but they did say that we could continue to pursue perfection and if theyre individuals who think that we can make the national anthem more perfect in terms of the goals and objectives of this country then I say so be it.
Fellow CBC member Democratic Missouri Rep. Lacy Clay said he would have to examine which part of the anthem the NAACP takes issue with, but he told TheDC, They have a right to object to any stances in the national anthem that they find objectionable and racist.
The NAACP referenced the anthems third verse, which is seldom sung and includes the line, no refuge could save the hireling and slave from the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave.

Unrelated to this topic: Ive been listening to the late, great and under appreciated George Harrison lately.
And this song in particular (from Lethal Weapon 2) because supposedly Lethal Weapon 5, with Mel & the gang is being planned. I suppose instead of rebooting the franchise, theyll skip that and directly go for one more payday. Gag.
Anyway, enjoy some George: https://youtu.be/WW-sdypv3yI
Who doesn’t love that one, very stirring.
It has lyrics but I don’t think I’ve ever heard them. Does an “anthem” need to have words or could you go instumental?
Albinos? ;)
I would be OK with changing the Anthem ... to the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me.
As He died to make MEN holy, let us die to make MEN free,
While God is marching on.
Let the aetheists and muslims choke on THOSE verses!
Feminazis too ;)
I dont think Ive heard the lyrics either.
Honestly, I prefer instrumental. For every Whitney Crack? F*** YEAH! Houston version of it, theres a Roseanne Barr version of it.
I’d have paid a sawbuck to see someone rip that bad chinchilla rug off Sam Donaldson’s skull.
What...a...douche.
