Democrats appeared poised to make huge gains in the Republican-controlled House of Delegates and potentially take control of the chamber for the first time in 18 years as strong voter turnout put a slew of GOP incumbents in danger of losing their seats.
The biggest upsets occurred early in Northern Virginia, where Democrat Danica Roem became the first transgender person elected to the House of Delegates, defeating social conservative Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Prince William, and Democrat Lee Carter shocked House Republican Whip Jackson H. Miller, R-Manassas, despite tepid support from his own party.

Northern Virginia was over run by dems awhile ago
Trump lost Va so i am not really surprised
What can you say? This is the price of winning the White House and getting all those federal judicial picks: people tend to start voting the opposite party in local races and whatnot as a ‘check.’ Had Hillary won last year, I’ve little doubt Northam and Democrats wouldn’t have had a wave election in Virginia tonight.
It is also rapidly becoming ground zero for a massive population of latino’s and muslim’s.
Mosque’s are opening up all over, and there are large metro DC areas where it seems almost everyone is on subsidies for food, rent, and transportation. It is everywhere. It is far more pervasive and spread around DC than it once was.
Virginia and Maryland are finished. The large populations around DC are largely anti-American or extremely disloyal to the US, and are historically and economically illiterate.
Worse yet, a high percentage of population around DC see’s it as their duty to vote for redistributed money from working America to themselves. It is a real mindset I have lived amongst for years.
With the migration of liberals, and really anti-American residents moving into northern VA, or without an economic collapse, an act of God, or Fairfax County being removed from the state of Virginia, the state of Virginia is forever finished. It is only a matter of time when, like New York, the state legislative assembly will have no choice but to go solidly the same way.
As such, while there are large areas of upscale yuppieville, soccer-moms, and contractors with large homes and apartments, Northern VA is simply no longer a cross section of traditional America. There are schools and malls all over the place where English is now a second language at best. Despite all of the construction going on, many areas are torn up and dirty.
No amount of conservative will can stop a left-wing super majority in a democratic system, from voting to take all the wealth and erasing every vestige of the system they seek to eradicate.
These populations are simply the foolish pawns, strategically carrying out the generational master plan to neutralize and destroy our Constitutional free republic, to replace it with a sovereign, all powerful, socialist government!
I have lived in Prince William County for 17 years and your analysis of what has happened here in VA is spot on. This election is my green-light to leave.
They have not taken the House of Delegates. There are several races where recounts are going to be done and the GOP will maintain its majority.
The Republican establishment can’t get anything done, and if they fail, people will vote for the Dems (who will get work done). We’ll hate their work, but they aren’t a circular firing squad. I almost feel like the Republican establishment is screwing Trump with this because they want him to fail so they can declare victory and go back to politics as usual.
As always, “politics as usual” means filling their pockets with cash.
All these smiling liberal aholes are soon going to find out that their taxes are going up through the roof. The rich ones won’t give a crap and the stupid ones will think that it’s just fine.
The working class just got screwed by the Dems and their imports, including the new voters of the Hispanics, Moslems, and rich liberals who are making northern Virginia into their playground but living in nearly white enclaves (we don’t mix with the po’ folk, you know).
Well, there will be another day and another payback if the Republicans can get their damned act together (which it hasn’t in northern Virginia. Too many reception RINOS and not enough ground-pounders right now. We need decent leadership from the younger and middle-aged conservatives. We older guys are physically worn down but mentally still as sharp as a Gurkha’s knife.
time to move..
“This election had nothing to do with Gillespie being a RINO, never Trumper etc. It shows that Virginia has gone hard left. Those who say that a pro Trump candidate would have won are kidding themselves.”
Spot on. Given this state’s current political trajectory, it’s clean no GOPer had any chance whatsoever. Virginia was a reliably conservative state when I moved here in 1995. The growth of the federal government through the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations swelled the liberal, government-worker population in the DC collar counties. It’s been turning decidedly blue ever since. The only possibility if a reversal is if the government workforce shrinks, but that is not in the cards. I’d hoped and prayed that my adopted home state wouldn’t become a carbon copy of Illinois, but it’s definitely headed in that direction.
No.. it wasn’t fraud. Virginia is simply more liberal now.
I just looked at the NY SLIMES results page for Virginia’s HoD. By my count, it appeared up to THIRTEEN incumbent Republicans were defeated. A couple of the races were very close, which might alter that number a bit.
I didn’t see ANY incumbent Demon Rats defeated.
Not good.
Let me ask, though, since I am not a Virginian: were these establishment Rs or true conservatives? Or a mix?
And what about the outrage from that racist Demon Rat ad—I thought that was going to motivate some Republican vote.
As for the gubernatorial race, keep in mind that from BUSH 1 until today, the winning party in BOTH Virginia and New Jersey has been the OPPOSITE party of the one occupying the Oval Office. Trump continues that trend. In other words, this was to be expected.
Bob Marshall was as conservative as they come, and lost his Prince William district seat to the tranny metalhead, “Danica” Roem.
5 are too close to call.
Ive been saying that one measure of the success of Trumps Presidency will be if housing prices in DC level off or fall.
Of the five outstanding races, three (27, 28, and 94) are leaning GOP, while the other two (40 and 68) are leaning Democratic. Two (40 and 94) are really, really close though.
If the current leaders all win, it’ll be 50-50 in the VA House of Delegates.
several races outside those races also seemed close...gonna be recounts.
That’s my count as well....and the senate is still in Republican hands...so the Dems won’t have an unfettered hand to do what they wish, especially with gun control.
