She told her son that the shooter paced back and forth, firing into the pews and shooting at cellphones anytime someone tried to call police. He shot at her phone at least three times. With every shot, she was crying, he said of the woman. She was just staring at my mom while she tried to comfort her. As he fired rounds into the woman, Farida Brown held her hand, telling her she was heading to heaven. At that moment, she heard a shot fired from a different man, at the front door. The other man was Stephen Willeford, who lives near the church.

Willeford is a hero. He is the good guy with a gun who stopped the massacre.

We used to have insane asylums where the mentally ill were confined and they tried to help them. Whatever happened to them? Why are the mentally ill wandering the streets?

It is pretty obvious that the shooter planned on murdering everyone in the church.

Because in the 1960’s during JKF’s presidency, the community mental health system was born. The idea was that the people being held in the state hospitals had civil rights, that they were being held without having committed any crimes. The idea was that they should be moved back into the communities where they would be taken care of by mental health centers. A lot of government money was given to communities to train psychiatrists to treat the mentally ill where they lived. The effect was that a lot of mentally ill people ended up living on the streets not getting the care they needed.

Willeford was
interviewed by Crowder. In the interview he said he first saw this killer by his car which was still running. That is when they started trading shots.

Hard to believe this is a WaPo story since it acknowledges that an armed citizen intervened and made a difference for those who survived the murderous attack. This is also the first story I’ve seen that details the injuries caused by Willeford’s shots with leg and torso hits, followed by the perp taking himself out with the head shot.

It is likely it will be the only time that particular fact will ever grace their pages.
