I just voted in SW Virginia. Rural area, goes usually about 58-42 for the good guys (or at least the less-evil guys). More cars than usual for off year elections but no real wait inside. This was about noon. I'd guess that it was half of 2016 (Trump), and about equal to when Cuccinelli lost a very close race without any establishment help in 2013 to McAuliffe. Although the Dems have an edge in VA now, I still think it is very winnable for Republicans. My hope is that we pull out a win in a close election. For those conservatives sitting out because Gillespie is kind of gutless, I know you won't listen but it still needs to be said. You are not helping.
here’s nyt election page:

Northern Virginia has less than 1/3 of the voters in the Commonwealth. Surely the more 2/3 can outvote the less than 1/3?
Gillespie wins!
The First lady asked me to post that.

Worse than the pick-up truck ad? We’re doomed.
I lived 36 years in Fairfax County (1979-2015). There is no way any Rep wins by 5% in VA. If the turnout in NoVA is high, the race is over. Northam wins easily. I watched the transformation of VA from a red state to a blue state. The Dems in NoVA are well-funded and well organized. They have built a powerful political machine. I would warn against any optimism tonight. Gillespie is facing an uphill battle to say the least.
That’s good to hear from Fox Business; maybe the Fox exit polls are tight, Fox is apparently out of the pool of mockingbirds (CBS, NBC, CNN, etc.) that pooled together on exit polls tonite so it has its own.
One third of the residents of Fairfax County are foreign born. The 2012 ballot was also in Spanish in Fairfax County, the first time any county in VA had a ballot in two languages. Demography is destiny.
Early results:
Gillespie 471 votes with 55.2%
Northam 372 votes with 43.6%
50-50 odds now.
20% of VA is black. They live in the big cities and certain rural areas outside of NoVA.
The NY Times clock hand shows Gillespie up by 0.3 percent; I don’t know exactly what that means and I know it changes as the NYT becomes more confident in its predictions but perhaps its closer than the pool “news” outfits’ exit polls show.
NYT results
Gillespie 1,613 votes 52.9%
Northam 1,404 votes 46.0%
ha They’ve built nothing. They’ve just flooded that area with Mexicans and middle easterners. All an easy dem vote.
That’s all they’ve done; ran all the middle class white voter out, as usual.
With less than 1% reporting Gillespie leads by 34%.
what course,,you are ahead of the NY times page
NorVa and SoVa are like two different states. NorVa ruled by the D.C. crowd. SoVa are Christian conservatives for the most part. That’s why you get mixed results in VA elections.
coming from rural areas I’m sure...still have that HUGE NoVa vote to come in just like election night. POTUS was ahead until the last minute. VA is DONE as a red state, and thank the GOP-e on the national level for allowing this to happen with their lack of border control and amnesty.

Ed Gillespie 3,605 53.80%
Ralph Northam 3,033 45.26%
Cliff Hyra 63 0.94%
2 precincts in Prince William County (Gillespie up a little) in.
In 2016, Clinton beat Trump in Prince William by about 20%.
