~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Fort Sill, Oklahoma

sill1

Fort Sill, Oklahoma is a United States Army post north of Lawton, Oklahoma, about 85 miles southwest of Oklahoma City.

Today, Fort Sill remains the only active Army installation of all the forts on the Southern Plains built during the Indian Wars. It is designated as a National Historic Landmark and serves as home of the United States Army Field Artillery School as well as the Marine Corps site for Field Artillery MOS school, United States Army Air Defense Artillery School, the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade, and the 75th Fires Brigade.

Fort Sill is also one of the four locations for Army Basic Combat Training. It has played a significant role in every major American conflict since 1869.

A detachment of the United States Marine Corps, consisting of a firing battery and commanded by a colonel, is stationed at Fort Sill. Referred to as the MARDET, the detachment works with the Field Artillery School to train Marine artillerymen.

Marines also serve as gunnery and fire support instructors at the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, and as small group leaders at the Field Artillery Captains' Career Course. All Marine artillery officers attend the Field Artillery School and are trained alongside their Army Counterparts.

sill5

The 77th Army Band (Special designation: "The Pride of Fort Sill") is part of the Fires Center of Excellence. It was originally organized on 1 March 1907 at Fort Du Pont, Delaware as the 13th Band, Coast Artillery.

sill4

Another special detachment is the Field Artillery Half Section, an eight-man group representative of the "flying artillery" which was drawn by a team of horses (the Half Section has eight horses – all named after former commanding generals of Fort Sill) around the turn of the 20th century.

The Half Section was established in 1969 to celebrate Fort Sill's Centennial. The Soldiers are volunteers for the show group, while the horses, their equipment and transportation are provided through charitable donations. The popular Half Section has appeared in regional parades, local festivities, change of command ceremonies and a presidential inauguration parade.

Whatever works! LOL! If you know there are strays in the neighborhood and they aren’t in your yard, Ghost could be the reason.

You might need to get another carrier since Peaches and Ginger use the one you have. Ghost won’t want to get inside.
OR, he could take it over and then THEY won’t be able to use it.

Tigermaus is thriving, and he is HUGE!
He weighs about 8 lbs and is just over 6 months old,
probably closer to 7 months.
He’s gonna be a BIG boy!

He’s really got a nice personality, and does not
use his claws when we play with him.
But he will tackle you, and leap up to catch your
hands and stuff like that, He was starting to really bite during his play, and that’s what I want most for him to stop.

I also don’t want him to “spray” like tomcats do, ugh!
Yikes!
Look at the time!
I had better get to bed!
Love to all, and hugs alla round!

I think he’s already taken it over. I have opened the front door a couple of times and he zipped out of it.

It might be why mine stay in when it’s cold. Ginger has a hidey-hole in the storage shed at the back of the yard that I’ve put a soft towel in for her, but Peaches just has me. sigh. LOL! Even before Ghost, he wouldn’t go in the carrier. I think he didn’t feel safe...felt trapped.

Nighty-night, Sis! ((((hugs))))

See you next time you pop in for a bit! Maybe tomorrow night for another quiz. Even though the codes are messed up. LOL!

He IS going to be a big boy when he finally stops growing! Pixie’s lil girlies MIGHT weigh 5 pounds but just barely. They look like they’re around 4 1/2 mos. old maybe. They’re going to be munchkin kittehs. LOL

Thump him on his nose and say “NO!” when he tries to bite. That’s how I break the habit when we have a cat who likes to bite and it works. They’re trying to establish that THEY are the “alpha cat” and you just need to let them know YOU are.

The spraying is something the surgery should take care of. Ours who go outside will still spray out there but don’t do it in the house. Whew!

Good night and sleep well. *Hugz*

Aaaaaaaah, it’s his carrier already, is it? LOL! I didn’t think he’d be comfy in it - - that he’d feel about it the way Peaches does.

When our cats stayed out at night, they didn’t like being in enclosed places. I had boxes with blankets in different sheltered spots for them to curl up in and they used those.

Now they only go out during the day and if they get chilly, they come back inside.

I’m just thankful he had a place to stay out of the bitter cold that we had last winter. Mine could come in...he could not.

We don’t have any real sheltered spots except the front porch and that small storage shed, and they are taken. Peaches curls up behind the rain barrels or he refuses to go out and keeps me company. And I don’t get much sleep. :)

I think tonight is going to be one of THOSE nights! And it’s not even cold. Oh, well. At least he doesn’t attack my toes under the covers like Ginger used to do. ugh! THAT is a rude awakening! LO!

I’m glad he has a place too. No fun being stuck outside with nowhere to get warm. He’s lucky to have someone who cares about him at last. It sounds like he doesn’t have another home since he’s at your house so much.

Oh boy, aren’t you the lucky one tonight? LOL
But maybe he’ll want to go out at the last minute and you’ll get to sleep peacefully after all. :-)

Man, I hope so. It’s too warm to cuddle with a warm kitty. LOL! I still have a fan going, it’s so warm. But tomorrow night, it’s supposed to be in the mid-30s, so there is that.

I guess I should go. Need to be bright eyed tomorrow and tomorrow night for the quiz! See ya then!

Heck, just give him the boot out the door. LOL! It worked the other night.

The temp still hasn’t dropped here either. Still 66. I don’t think we’re supposed to get into the 30s at night until Wed. but tomorrow night will be quite a bit cooler than tonight. No open windows and the heaters will be put back to work. *sigh*

Sleep well. Catch ya tomorrow evening.

Charts and darts and Freddie. I switched MOS to 13B for E-7. Chief of Smoke was the best job! Loved the Hip Shoot and coordinated HE under Illum.

I learned a valuable lesson from one of my wire guys when I was an E2. When he brings you that battalion line, wait until HE calls YOU before you start cranking the phone.

Crank phone (repeatedly) while wire guy is making a splice = get chased around the FDC by irate wire guy with an E-tool.

LOL, you made me remember some FA terms I had forgot, Chief of Smoke, chart and Darts and of course Freddie FADAC.

Good times at Hardstands 1,2 and 3 at Grafenwohr, W. Germany back in the day.
