I learned a valuable lesson from one of my wire guys when I was an E2. When he brings you that battalion line, wait until HE calls YOU before you start cranking the phone.
Crank phone (repeatedly) while wire guy is making a splice = get chased around the FDC by irate wire guy with an E-tool.

LOL, you made me remember some FA terms I had forgot, Chief of Smoke, chart and Darts and of course Freddie FADAC.
Good times at Hardstands 1,2 and 3 at Grafenwohr, W. Germany back in the day.

After my training, I discovered that, in an Infantry unit, the radio guy doesn't repair the the radio, he carries the radio! I did that for a few years, discovered there was no rank to be had, and switched over to 11B.
