Based on his date of birth, he probably went in at the end of WWII and was released early.
I truly dislike that people have made this about veterans. It’s about the United States of America and ALL it stood for and given it’s citizens.
Millions have died at home while building this great country. Millions have sacrificed to build it to the greatest country in the history of the world. Limiting the talk to veterans means the sentiment doesn’t reach those people’s families and heritage

I note an NFL commercial about a player paying homage to servicemen. Nice try NFL, but it’s not about military servicemen. It’s about policemen.

Off topic but makes me wonder, in the modern era of moving franchises, how many people were with the team in the former city? For example, is there anyone in the Baltimore Ravens organization who was with the team in Cleveland? Anyone with the Arizona Cardinals from their days in St.Louis? Anyone still with the KC Chiefs from their days as the Dallas Texans?
Vin was truly a legend in the broadcast booth.
He was probably 18 and entered the service prior to the end of WWII. When the war was over, the recently in were released from service given there was no need for so many of them as the war machine was deactivated. Same thing happened to my father in the Korean War. I think he was in only 15-16 mos. or so. Honorably discharged, no conditions, etc.

Scully would have turned 18 in April 1945. In the single month of December 1945, the military discharged a million men and the draft slowed to a trickle.
