Based on his date of birth, he probably went in at the end of WWII and was released early.
I truly dislike that people have made this about veterans. Its about the United States of America and ALL it stood for and given its citizens.
Millions have died at home while building this great country. Millions have sacrificed to build it to the greatest country in the history of the world. Limiting the talk to veterans means the sentiment doesnt reach those peoples families and heritage

Thank you!
If you’ve lost Vin Scully....you’ve lost.
I note an NFL commercial about a player paying homage to servicemen. Nice try NFL, but it’s not about military servicemen. It’s about policemen.
That pic was taken at Ebbets Field. If I recall correctly, Vin was the last Dodger link to Brooklyn.
Off topic but makes me wonder, in the modern era of moving franchises, how many people were with the team in the former city? For example, is there anyone in the Baltimore Ravens organization who was with the team in Cleveland? Anyone with the Arizona Cardinals from their days in St.Louis? Anyone still with the KC Chiefs from their days as the Dallas Texans?
Vin was truly a legend in the broadcast booth.
He was probably 18 and entered the service prior to the end of WWII. When the war was over, the recently in were released from service given there was no need for so many of them as the war machine was deactivated. Same thing happened to my father in the Korean War. I think he was in only 15-16 mos. or so. Honorably discharged, no conditions, etc.
You could use the pic to ping Brooklyn Freepers...
Scully would have turned 18 in April 1945. In the single month of December 1945, the military discharged a million men and the draft slowed to a trickle.
Yep, thugs have freedom of speech and so do we... NEVER... Never give in to thugs... Vin Scully’s a good man...
It’s really about all of us. They don’t believe this country is worth standing up for.
I stopped watching last year when this all started.
No Colts again for me today. Never again.
Took a little nap, screw the NFL.
I’m with you Vinny.
“There was never anyone who was even in his league. Vin Scully was by far the greatest.”
Vin was certainly a great one. Chick Hearn stands proudly next to him.
Glad to know Vin Scully is on the loyal patriot’s side.
All others to the back of the line.
I will never watch another NFL game again, Scully said to a Pasadena Civic Auditorium crowd in California.
I have only one personal thought, really. And I am so disappointed. And I used to love, during the fall and winter, to watch the NFL on Sunday. And its not that Im some great patriot. I was in the Navy for a year, didnt go anywhere, didnt do anything. But I have overwhelming respect and admiration for anyone who puts on a uniform and goes to war. So the only thing I can do in my little way is not to preach.
The reason that I am on this site at 2PM EST on a Sunday is I ‘m not watching those kneelers anymore.
