During her annual State of the City address on Thursday, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf called on her constituents to open their doors and residences to the citys homeless, as union workers picketed against her for her administrations handling of the citys rampant housing problem. Give up that Airbnb. Fix up that back unit, Schaff said, encouraging property owners to lease apartments at more affordable rates to recently homeless individuals, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
In Oakland, we dont step over the homeless we step toward them, Schaaf said.
The citys uptick in vagrants is tied to a general gentrification in the Bay Area, stemming from San Francisco, where artists and innovators unable to afford skyrocketing rents have migrated to Oakland.
In May, the Chronicle noted that a survey by Everyone Counts found that the number of homeless persons in Oakland had increased by 25 percent since two years ago.

I seriously won't be surprised if we see California try something like that - passing a law requiring those with a certain amount of property to provide shelters or some such thing. That is, forcing people to "do their fair share" to "help the community".
Squating rights in many States would give the property to the resident. Whomever put this out knew that.
“Maybe the mayor is tired of the recycled murder stories on Investigation Discovery and would like to see some new ones.”

I watch ID——very funny post.
“Forensic Files” is terrific, and better than most of ID.
.
Most of us have enough problems and enough problematic relatives and friends of our own that to have to over room and board to someone else’s would be detrimental to our own survival. Yes, “Working People Matter!”
Now there’s a thought...
Could be.
Yep, I have a friend who took in a homeless guy. Went OK for a while, then the homeless guy started acting up. My friend told him he needed to leave. Guy burned his house down, total loss.
Guy got 3 years, friend got enough to pay off mortgage and now owns a vacant lot.
Yes, how many bums is she hosting?
Let the mayor go first.
LOL maybe she can invite the homeless to stay with HER at her mansion..I mean seriously what could go wrong..notice liberals are always telling YOU what to do, but they never do it themseleves
LOL liberalism is a mental illness
Gee what a good idea. If I lived there, I’d definitely ask some junkie to move in.
I wonder how much innovating is paying these days?
You first beyotch!
She holds her event at a mosque, which won’t even allow men and woman to pray together.
“Schaaf also took the opportunity to rail against President Donald Trump, specifically choosing to hold her event at the Islamic Cultural Center. She did so, she reportedly said, to send one clear message. And that is that Oakland welcome and honor all people, all families, and all communities.
Another self-hating Secular Progressive Jew (aka capo). Just wonder how she’d fare as the mayor of a town in Israel? She should try “stepping over” a suicide bomber.
As I recall Ed and Lois Smart took in a homeless couple. All that happend was their 14 year old daughter got kidnapped and raped but said homeless couple. So yeah, good idea mayor.
Yeah, I wonder how many the good mayor has taken in?
Many people won’t stay at shelters because they can’t or won’t follow the rules about substance abuse and what is acceptable behavior.
Oakland will not be “sending their best” to your doorstep.
Many of the homeless were made that way with major tranquilizers, ECT and lobotomies. Those are pretty much unsalvageable. The rest are just too lazy to work. I will never hand out even a single nickel to those lazy bums. Much less let one in my house so he can steal everything or worse. They aren’t victims of circumstance. They are criminals.
You first, Lbby.
You first.

Then they would not be homeless. Then a few million would become homeless. Assume they were taken in by residents. Then they would not be homeless. Then a few million more would become homeless. And the cycle would continue without end.
