The fabric of a community frays under Trump

YORK, Pa.—Are you OK? Where are you?

Barbara Estep kept texting her daughter, Nylaya Way, who was not responding. Donald Trump had stunned the nation by winning the presidency the night before, and now frightening things were happening at Nylaya’s vocational high school, York County School of Technology. Racial tensions had been building in the school’s corridors, cafeteria, and parking lot throughout the historically divisive campaign. Then, hours after Trump claimed victory in the election, they boiled over as a group of white students held aloft Trump campaign signs and chanted in a hallway, “White power!’’

A brief video clip of the incident shot across the social media feeds of York Tech students and their parents.

“I just thought it was going to be this big race riot,” Barbara Estep said. “The country-fed boys, they’re hunters. I’m sorry, that’s what I thought. These city kids, they have guns. I thought it was going to be a big shootout.”

Finally, a text came from Nylaya: I’m OK. Stop worrying.

But even as the threat of violence seemed to ease, Estep decided to keep her daughter out of school the next day. Many other parents made the same call. “When I called the school and I said, ‘I’m not going to send her,’ ” Estep recalls, “the person in the attendance office said, ‘I don’t blame you.’ ”

Trump’s election a year ago profoundly altered the United States in ways that continue to reverberate, but perhaps most visibly and disturbingly in how we talk to one another, especially about the hardest things, like the nation’s racial divide. The volume is up; the edge is sharp. Old grievances feel new, and civility is being sorely tested.

Interesting article filled with the typical BS and media-contrived stereotypes but still a worthwhile read, IMO.

Every word in the story is probably a lie.

...

The divide that obviously grew under Obama.

Why is the Boston Globe doing a story about the feelings of stupid people?

I suspect it was fraying before Trump and will continue fraying long after Trump is gone.

Fraying?

Like importing thousands of illegals or muslim “refugees” into communities?

Like importing section 8 housing into communities?

Etc.

Racial tension is blacks disagreeing with or otherwise not liking what white are doing. Wow. Get over it snowflakes or there’s gonna be a hell of a lot worse then “racial tensions”.

$22,000,000,000,000 (twenty two trillion) of "reparations" over the last 40+ years and yet they want more!

SOMETIMES I WISH THAT WE HAD PICKED OUR OWN COTTON!

Racial divide? Kind of like “the knock out game”? Or very high black on white crime rate? Black on white rape? Is that the racial divide they are talking about?

ok, I got this far:
It’s the kind of place where a simple Trump sign or cardboard cutout is seen by some as a show of pride in working-class values, but by others as a racist affront.

That's the problem in a nutshell. Back when Bush was president, they called him racist, too. Then we had 8 years of Zero encouraging racism and acting out. But now we've got a president who won't put up with racism on either side. And that's got the real racists all in a tizzy. White boy is telling people to behave themselves and they've gotten to used to acting out. And let's be real - he's white so he's going to be demonized because that's the latest fad. And, he's a male. He triggers those with parental issues, because he just oozes authority and they don't like that either, having not had to respond to any parental authority for so long. In a way it's depressing we have so many weak-minded, small on character people in America, but look who they had setting an example the last 12 years. But once the dramaqueens realize that nobody cares about their fake crisises and their fake personal anguish complete with fake tears, they'll go back to gossiping about their neighbors like the little people they truly are.

The fabric of a community frays under Trump

What 'community' was that exactly? The 'Black community'? The 'Gay community'? The 'Hispanic community'? The 'Transgender community'? The 'social justice' community? ad infinitum. The Left doesn't know what the word means. The 'community' you refer to was and is nothing but factions.

"Why is the Boston Globe doing a story about the feelings of stupid people?"

Because they are surrounded with stupids, and are stupids themselves!!! They honestly have no clue as to why they are hated by everyone outside their own bubble.

I just watched "11/8/16" on Netflix, a one sided "documentary" about the reactions of various stupids, (and three Trump people, just for that treasured "objective" label.) Now I understand "schadenfreude". I couldn't stop laughing at their pain.

"Journalists" who can't see their own bias and go to bed blandly convinced of their own objectivity.
Illegals who never offer a reason as to why they fled their country and expect that our laws shouldn't apply to them.
Dimwitted SJWs, who voted for a crook, knowing she was a crook, because she has a seldom used vagina.
Corrupt Chicago politicians who vote the Party Line, knowing they are fostering massive theft, and blaming it on "Raciss Neo-Nazis"

I'm having trouble trying to fight the urge to see all democrats gassed...

Question, If you feel uncomfortable, threatened, not happy why are you here? Isnt it more work to consistently fight (in all their cases) the imaginary, trumped up opposition to their well being. There is a country that you have adopted in your title here as “African American” that may suit you better. Oh and by the way if you do chose this option you may be surprised to know that there are no freebee’s where you will be residing. This is why you will not leave

Thanks for the local perspective and input. The reporter obviously went with a preferred narrative and found sources to help fill in the blanks.

Bet your A. And all for the better. About time somebody piloting the ship put home interests first and stopped bowing and scraping to the political correctness BS.
