Wahabbiism has been part of the Saudis playbook of playing both sides, ours and the radical terror side as well. They fund mosques big time in the U.S. and worldwide. If that ever ends could be the beginning of the end of radical Islam to a large degree.Racial islam only continues with massive funding. Kill the money kill their effectiveness.
The reason a group takes credit for terrorist acts or sometimes tries to grab credit, like in the Los Vegas shooting, is patronage. There are lots of rich Arabs who want to virtue signal by supporting terrorist organizations. I imagine backing a terrorist organization, while also dealing with the evil West and living in unimaginable comfort, is like buying an indulgence for your sins from the Pre-Luther Catholic church. My research into Saudi Culture, for my MBA, taught me that many high government officials and former officials, provided financial support to terrorist organizations. While this support was not a matter of official state sponsorship, the actors were often important state employees. Almost all of the important state jobs are held by members of the Saud family...membership makes you a prince. In this way both the job’s pay and whatever bribes it brings keeps the money and control in the Saud family.
What we are seeing played out is dangerous for the Saudi government, as it could provoke a civil war, and it is historic and unexpected. This is Trump, most likely, causing a complete reformation of terrorist financing. If Trump, and the Saudi government, pull this off it will be a major setback for terrorist financing worldwide.
